I was attempting dock pumping starts with a 4' custom Pedigo board, 30" Slingshot mast and i99 wing. I built a "starting block" on my dock to roughly match the level of the board when the wing is on the surface of the water. On one attempt I jumped onto the board and landed a bit off center. I crashed of course but then realized my mast had bent. See photos. Have you ever bent a mast? I weigh 180 lbs. I thought the aluminum mast would be stronger. How do these masts hold up to jumping?
BTW, so far I have totally failed at dock starts...runs, drops, bungie, and 4-wheeler pulls from shore.
Why does it look so easy in the videos?? I can pump through lulls pretty well when I'm sailing.

Marc,
Am also trying to learn dock starts. Have tried runs and bungie, plenty of crashes, no success. Think the transition might be easier from wakefoiling, then when get pumping, letting go of rope.
Try Foiling NY on YouTube,
You might be able to cut the bent bit off and use the balance that is still straight, to save buying a new mast
The sling shot dream team will fill you in on if that's possible

people who want to shorten their mast have done this, but you need to thread the holes for the bolts
I personally haven't seen any bent masts, did you reach out to slingshot?
I have seen a bent Slingshot before in a shop like that. Comment from the shop owner was "Don't let that put you off, that was 100% user error", by which he meant jumping a big wing at high speed, getting plenty of height, and landing it badly like when you spin out landing too upwind from a chop hop. Wyatt seems to be steering people to focusing on i65 for jumping.
Cant see how you bend a mast dock starting though - when I think of some of the worst foil outs I have done on my i99, at max speed, weighing over 90kgs and no problems at all.

That is unusual if it just bent from dock foiling?
I have bent a 90 cm but that's because I spent the whole a weekend jumping a TC 68 foil and exactly as smidgeuk mentioned it was somewhat a flat landing into big spin out and I'm not exactly twinkle toes at 90kg ![]()
I noticed the mast is an older version (graphics are from the first year of production I believe?) the newer masts are black with orange decals. Cost in the US is $129

I bent a Naish Thrust mast yesterday while jumping (flat landing on the wing). I sailed it back to the beach (interesting as the board sails crooked) and then just bent it back the other way by hand with one foot on the board. Time will tell if it has weekend it!
Hi guys, in this topic... Are there any other companies masts that will fit the slingshot setup? I'm asking because I'm looking for a 90cm mast (currently own 71cm) and I'm not sure if I want to buy a new one for $235 (which seems reasonable but I just spent way to much on gear recently)

Ride Engine uses all the same pieces interchangeably Foilworks from Windance.com in the US uses masts that are 100% compatible with Slingshot's.

Do you want something better or equivalent?
I have bent the same 30" SS mast twice. Not sure what happened the first time. Maybe shore break. Wasn't jumping or doing anything else as I was a newb. It bent near the board so I straightened it back out I flipped it over to use the good end near board. Just got back from La Ventana where I bent it again! WTH. Different spot and this time I know it wasn't shore break. I was just cruising. It has me wondering about quality control.

Just set my gear up today and noticed my 90 cm mast was bent as well. I don't jump or dock start. Only thing I can think of is possibly bumping bottom when coming in. Thankfully I had a 28" mast as a spare. Going to call the shop tomorrow and get another one.... maybe two. Too is there a carbon option yet?

I don't think there is carbon option yet, but I believe there will be a fuselage that will allow people to use their hoverglide wings with phantasm mast, sometime in the future.
Did you try bending it back?
All HG drivers that have problems with the stabilty of the mast and fuse I can recommend the new phantasm line.

Yes it's an invest, but out of my current experience really worth. The 730 replaces two wings. So if you take the prices of a new HG with i76 + the i65 costs round 1800 Euro. The phantsam is round 400 more but the system is the next level and no more jumping issues at light wind with the 730 wing.

I bent it back a bit, but didn't try to hard. I called to get a replacement and the shop said they would warranty it. They have two used 90cm masts in the shop too, I may get one new one and buy one used one just to have a spare.
They also told me about The Carbon fiber masts from Project Cedrus that are out, or coming out.

The Phantasm is obviously intriguing, but since it only has an i76 size wing at this point, it's not an option for me. Most of my foiling is on the i84 and i99. But perhaps in the future I may change my mind.

The shop is going to get one in for me.![]()
I found a used 90cm mast for $25 at my shop. They think they have another used 90cm too... they are trying to locate it in their warehouse.
Has anyone heard of SS replacing a bent mast under warranty?
