Another question about SS wings!

I nicked my i84 on a rock when attaching my sail to board in the water. Are these wings fully glassed through, or is there foam in the middle. In other words, will these wings take on water if a crack or gash in the wing in significant enough?

Foam core inside.
So will take water if the crack goes through to the core

If you ever want to dry a water logged board; leave it in the car on a sunny day.
That's F not C and its over the ambient temp. After an hour its 43F over the outside daytime temp.

That's not good to hear. Shoot!! Well, now I have to be extra careful with wings too. They ding up too easy from just bumping on a rock. Why can't they make them solid like fins?

Here are some pics of the ding in my wing. Looks just sandable and no need for any repair. What do you think? I have plenty of experience with repairing boards, but I don't know how much glass is around the foam on wings? Is there a thicker layer of glass on wings than on boards?

There is a time between when epoxy dries and when it fully cured. During this time it sands easily. Hobby stores have have high quality epoxy in small containers. The area I repaired was much bigger. Hope this helps!

From what the picture shows and what I see up close on the wing, while getting a better look at it seems like the paint just chipped off around the glass in that area. I can put my finger nail in the dent and the construction still feels solid, which makes me believe I didn't compromise the construction of the wing. I will sand in that area and see if that will take care of it.

Then you'd know that was a paint and gel coat chip, exposing the glass-carbon wrap.....

You know how it is. We buy brand new stuff and we ding it right after we purchase it and we wig out over it. That's me wigging out over this. Plus, I had a better look at it a few minutes ago and came to the conclusion it was just superficial.

that ding doesn't look too bad. if not splitting or anything, you could add some thickened epoxy and fair out the ding.

I had one of the early production wings that split, and it was a wood core inside. there was about ~2.5mm of carbon in the leading edge before the core started.

Good to know, and also good to know about the thickness of glass around the foam or wood.

Sanded it out. Just need to paint it orange and it's good as new!

dinged my 84 and water did get in. I let it dry for a few days hanging upside down and then carved out the ding with a box cutter and then used Marine Tex to patch it. Worked great!

You didnt think it would be safer to put in a little bit of top coating, to fill up the dent?
That way he core and carbon fibers of the foil are still more protected?
Guess also the hydro-flow would be maintained better then?
(i am no foil expert, but that is how we used to make best repairs on windsurf boards and fins in older days)
