Hi,
Is anyone using or used the 4.7 lift? Is it a good sail to step down to from the lift 5.7 when the wind is up or is just as easy to go to a 4.7 wave sail?

I would say that a wave or freestyle sail is a better step down from the 5.7 lift if the wind picks up. The lift is perfect if you are trying to maximize your light wind options but when its really blowing or you want to get on faster freeride wings I think its top end is limiting
I succesfully used my lift 3.7 when it was blowing over 20 knots but I was on a medium speed wing, so the apparent wind wasn't as great. But now I mostly sail faster free ride wings and the wave sail (hot sails maui superfreak maui edition) is much better.

Thanks thedoor,
I think I cocked it up and asked the wrong question. I should of said what sail and wing should I use when the wind is over 20 knots. Thedoor could you tell me your weight and what gear you use when the wind is over 20knts and foiling ?
20knots +, at 72 kg and 1150 wing, 3.7 up to 25 knots.
Beyond that is 4.5 windsurfing on 85 liter board.

Thanks LeeD,
sounds like you have a good plan.
Is that 3 sails and two boards?
For the last two seasons I have been doing slalom on a lake, very interesting but last week I was foiling all alone on the ocean and it occurred to me that I really like chop and waves. I am thinking this year of going to another local spot which is ocean with waves and then sometimes going back to the lake for some slalom.
I am 87kg.
I was thinking of packing the car with:
Naish 120 crossover 1650 and 1032, kode 95 (don't own one but something around that volume)
5.7 lift sail, 4.7 gator (after thedoor's comments) and a 4.0 gator --->>> I think I can rig the lot on a 370 with just one boom.
I think that could give me a good wind range to keep me on the water all day. That is provided that the spot is not light wind and a biggish big shore break. I don't normally have a problem with a shore break on fin boards but with a foiling mast, I am not very successful. ;(

Bigger wings can be used for 20knots+ but most people will gravitate towards faster wings for stronger wind as they tend to be more managable and are able to take advantage of the higher wind.
Currently for 20 knots I am using the balz pro 799 a 3.7 superfreak maui edition and my 87L freestyle (if the wind has not filled in all the way I might take the 15 freestyle instead). before I switched to the ghostwhisper/balz combo I would have been on the hoverglide apollo 60.
I am about 77kg
Past month, 3.7 to 4.2 for at least 20 days now.
But, why can't I get better? I can claim more bad habits, but no positive improvements.![]()

I thought it was cause you mostly windsurf. Have you been foiling more?
Wind at Berkeley got lighter by mid August.
Of maybe 140 days this season, maybe 40 was windfoil with half of those needing a switch to windsurf board, same sail.
Now, intro into wingfoil is diverting attention, but wingfoil needs wind stronger than windfoil, but maybe less than windsurf.

yeah 40 sessions in one season you should be getting good, are you still using that kite wing and long fuse?
Mostly 79 fuze and 1150 with 310 stab.
Got some bad habits on foil jibes, different on port/Starboard, mostly hitting waves while up 1/3 meter and catching a rail.
Worse, I tend to jibe in dying breeze.

Berkely does get a bit of swell. Maybe try some flatter water spots to see if it helps your gybes
Swells gives a reason to windfoil.
Flat water is boring after several runs.
Yea, Marina Bar inside the harbor mouth is flat, but incredibly boring.
