Planning a 40th/Pre wedding for a best mate, mid to late March is the dates set by the bride to be! Thinking of the Ments or Telos for a week before meeting wives and kids for the wedding in Bali. Any ideas on places to go? Thinking lat 0 or aloite, anyone got ideas? Is it too early? Will we get waves? Hoping to minimise travel times by red eyeing flights, maybe? 6-8 days, Never done it, all ideas will be much appreciated!! Cheers!!
March could be the best uncrowded waves ever or expensive ankle biters.
Would think too early and risky for the Telos area but Aloita Resort has a larger amount of access to swell magnets, locally Iceland's / 7 Palms and you can also travel to Lances left or Burger World for day trips used to be around $140 US for the day split between everyone on the boat.
Have stayed at Aloita for a couple of trips management has changed hands since I was there and I haven't heard of any complaints.
When staying in Padang (you will have to over night on the way in/out) I always stay the Mecure (book ahead $70 to 80 / night) stayed a number of other joints cheap/expensive and always some fu(king drama of some sort.
Up to you to let the mob book accommodation / airport pickup / ferry etc I did the 1st trip but now do all that myself.
Having surfed around a bit Oz, Indo, US, Mexico, central / South America and Pacific (well Vanuatu doesn't really count :-) ) the Mentawai in full swing is next level there is nothing and I fu(king mean absolutely nothing that comes close when it glasses of and fires
Any other info just yell out
PS 6 to 8 days just doesn't cut it tell the missus for the man she wants you to be, you have to go for a min 10 to 14 days and then she will only love you more ![]()

I just had an interesting trip to Simeulue - North West Sumatra. Worth a look for a cheaper and relatively uncrowded option. If you didn't score waves you would be pretty unlucky

Yep 10 days min for sure!!
Thanks heaps for the info. Took the plunge and booked Telo Surf Villa for 8 days in March. Will let you know how we go. Cheers!
All booked except the Wings flight from Medan to Nias and then Nias to Medan. (If we can sort these flights we will have a day and a bit at Lagundri on the way to the Telos.) We are having heaps of trouble trying to buy them online. No travel agent seems to deal with Wings Air and apparently you need an Indonesian credit card to book through their site. Any one got any tips? It's getting a bit much for a rookie traveller like myself!

Haven't been out there but If you contact directly (email or phone) they might do a bank transfer.
PS if doing bank transfers open a Citi Bank Account Oz banks just rip you off up to 11% when you take the exchange spread into a account.
G'day Brett go directly to their site and you can book online with Aussie card and it's converted to rupiah.also check lion air as its same airline one or the other is a subsidiary of the other.i booked Medan to simeulue returns and then Medan to Denpasar online no probs
also if o/ nighting in Medan stay at thongs transit inn 10 mins from airport free shuttle wifi clean cold beers and the grounds and garden theme is classic. All the best for an epic trip
