They do seem to increase in numbers like rabbits..

These days people are blaming the internet for increasing people in the water at waves. But its sadly a simple over supply of surfers and a under supply of waves.

I wouldn't hate them so much if it was possible for them to just shut the **** up in line up.

I have a good mate that both surfs and boogers
I have to admit I had a bit of a laugh at his expense until I seen him at a heavy day at the box
Absolutely charges
He also sniffs out the right is a regular at Mufflers and goes waves that make me poo my pants.
A newfound respect for sure.
I think that if you are competent in the line up and don't carry on like a dick then no one sound have any dramas regardless of what craft
Unfortunately these days 90 percent of surfs are a bedlam

Yep. I know of a country where 97.5%of the booger population is female. Nothing wrong with that. Juss sayn.

Surely this thread is too good to be true......

I honestly really like boogers, I feel really comfortablebsurfing with them especially offshore sharky waves, it brings joy to my soul that they look like big tasty turtles and know that if a giant bag of teeth gets a little chompy mc chomp chomp that most large sharks love a bit of turtle.

The other advantage I would like too highlight is the numbers drop off as you get older, most of the lads i surfed with in school on stand ups kept at it, sure a few dropped off along the way but many still surf. The lid riders thiugh seemed to drop off a lot faster and many are inly returning to the water on stand ups now with kids of their own..

There is a youthful glee however to sliding along with no fins on your gut in fun waves and it is a joy that can be shared by all ages.

Last time i went to the maldives i busted my knee up pretty good with a couple days to go (day 17 into 19 day trip) i had a lay day and than on the last day surfed waist height pasta on low tide on a lid, it was fun but notntoo be taken seriously a 30 year old man on a boogy board is not to be taken seriously ( unless you are local legend jvb the hughes lad or mile stewart ben player or kainoa Mcgee ) thats about a wrap of at least 50/100 worth a mention....

Yeah but a good lidder can be impressive to watch. Young guys at my local charge hard and often surf the Right and other waves most wouldn't even consider. However then the problem becomes they think they are invincible..

I come from a slightly different angle on this one because I used to sponge and I now stand-up. I'm in my late 30s and gave up the bodyboard about five years ago because to be good at it you need the flexibility and strength of a young man! Bodyboarding requires so much athleticism to do well that it really is a young person's sport. I tried to stay in shape - and I still do plenty of exercise (mainly on the bike), but I've lost my nerve when it comes to trampoline training for the bodyboard - something that needs to be done to be half-decent. I started surfing on a mini-mal and hated it so moved to a longboard and hated that more. Bought a good short board and love it - it's a great sport, feels great and doesn't take such a toll on the body. Still have the urge to dust off the NMD when the waves are steep and powerful - there's nothing like the feeling of dropping into a steep wave on a bodyboard and getting into that barrel before being launched off the lip - but stand-up is great too so I'm not too depressed! My advice to all bodyboarders would be to protect their bodies and stretch as much as possible if they want to keep it up. Also, if you're a bodyboarder and worried about the toll on your body, then stand-up; it's very different, but still amazing. Two different sports and I couldn't choose between them. My advice to surfers is - if they've got the athleticism - to learn the other craft as well; you'll be blown away by the feeling of riding prone on a wave too steep for a stand-up paddle. It's epic. That's the way in Ireland - there's only respect between the two, and the bodyboarders are generally known as the nutters.

Boogie boarders are ok with me, so long as they scream "weeeeeeeeeeeeeee" as they bounce along in the whitewash.

I do both bodyboard the big days and surf the smaller days. Bodyboarding is no fun in small waves you need speed and hollow slabs, BB in Perth is a waste of time and even I drop in on the little pricks from time to time. But honestly some of the bodyboarders I know have some massive kahoonas and the wave knowledge and experience to back it up. But on metro beachies leave the Boogs at home.

Gut sliders were well and truly the first to start surfing "The Right". Young blokes too. Long before any one else. Nutters they were.

I think it was Corbs that said that when him and Foster got out at The Right on their ski one morning at first light to beat the crowd they pulled up to see that they weren't the first. It was either White or Hardy and they paddled out there on their own!
Thats commitment!

I like when you duck dive under them that they don't have fins..Makes for safer paddle out..Problem is you have to remind them not to return the favour..
