Hi all

Just wondering how Togo about selecting some new fins and what I should be looking for

Firstly I'm 6'3" 87kilos so am generally looking at size large in all brands

To date I have used: M7's, MF-1 and some glass surfinz

I bought the MF's because they were a great deal and have them in a 6'10" grant miller v-skate

I also have a 6'6" grant miller much lower volume which has a mixture of the M7 thrusters and surfinz rear as I keep breaking them!

Looking to upgrade on the smaller board - what should I be looking for - thoughts - suggestions?

The fin box system is original FCS by the way (twin tab)

Cheers
Craig

Thank Mitchbat - assume you are referring to these:

Any reason for the recommendation or just a personal feel?

I'm with Mitchbat (yes the ones in your screenshot) or have a look at Shapers AM2 Performance Core.

I've got a couple of brand new G-AM sets through a guy on eBay for around $70...... eagles something or other is his user name.

I was going to suggest the same guy. Can get some killer deals on occasion. IDE make a wish list and just check eBay a few times a week.

So I went to a shop and whilst they didn't have any of the recommended ones... They did have a suggestion surprisingly the nexus FCS @ $150! Anyone used them or any comments?

Also re shapers fins - any thoughts on paying the extra 20 bucks to get the stealth (carbon lay up) version?

I don't know the fins your talking about, but avoid going for anything to stiff. That was partly my mistake with the Futures. I went Tech flex and the exact same fin in Hex core was perfect. Tech flex was way to stiff.

So the shop suggest the most expensive ones on the shelf Seems legit

My comments are - that's a lot of money to spend on three fins. You can get hand foiled custom fins for less.

I.disagree, I like the carbon more in my big arse groveller. Can really feel a difference. In saying that, some peeps on here swear by plastic fins

If you are happy to bide your time on eBay and watch a couple of different sets you can usually get a really good deal. I think that even his "make and offer" and "buy now" prices are pretty reasonable if you are in a hurry. Speedy delivery too.

Quick review on the FCS stealth h-3's which I borrowed

Firstly I can definitely see why the are love/hate - very noticeably different even at my level of surfing

I'm not sure yet which side of the wire I fall on!

I disliked the noticeable decrease in drive
I loved how much looser the board felt on carving turns
Disliked losing the tail due to extreme skatey feeling a couple of times - they give a bit of an unpredictable feeling, lots of initial grip followed by suddenly nothing

I would highly recommend them for anyone with a board they want to loosen up

I have only had one 2 hour session and will try them again tomorrow - be really interesting to compare to the ARC's as design wise I feel they sit somewhere between my MF-1's and the nexus....
