The Orca's that we have around here mostly hunt rays (including those on wooden boards) they quite often herd them into shallow water, they come through raglan about once a year scare most of the tourists out of the water and for about 30 mins you get the points with just the locals and Orca's surfing it.
The orca was keeping itself between the person and the four metre great white that went unseen.....

Martin is the one person more qualified to comment ,after being a fisheries officer for 35 odd years . Orca did manege to find a father figure
. The board is a 12ft Toughlite Mickey Munoz .
Listened to interview with the NZ orca expert.. on radio station. She says is nz orca population. ....but occasionally there are visits from "pelagic ocean going" orca ?
