some of you may have seen this on ebay. 12ft Tom Wegener paulownia surfboard. VERY VERY HEAVY id say 35-40kgs at a guess.

never ridden a wooden type surfboard before so its very interesting, the board is chambered meaning it is hollow up the centre and has a plug that you must fit before surfing then remove once finished as the wood will expand and shrink and alot of air gets built up inside the board.

interesting that it doesnt seem to float on the water like foam, it more sits in the water rather than on top. When on a wave it splits the wave in half and you are riding within the wave rather than on top.

paulownia and cedar nose and tail blocks with a monsterous big D fin with paulownia and cedar.
stoked to have this as its a collectable as i think tom only made a handful of these at this size.

Looks awesome Spazz, wouldn't want to get in the way of that beast!

I'm guessing it's just a set trim & forget style of ride?

Wow looks amazing, shaping with timber would be some much more unforgiving .....
Given the amount of time it would take to create something like that, one could only afford to make a few of them probably......hehe

That's a beautiful looking thing Spazzman.

But at 35 odd kgs you wouldn't want to be carrying it too far.

With the fin positioned where it is and being of the type it is you will have too make sure that the "old drop knee" is working well.

Good pick up.

Hell Spazz..that's a monster, be careful with a leggie on the fella....if ya lost it your leg would go as well.

Seriously though..a real collectable, I had 2 Wegners..a Joker model and Model K (I think) craftsmanship was exceptional..and again should have kept them

Hey Spazzster, you didn't happen to get that board from Bobby Aitken did you.

It looks very much like one of his boards.

Bobby is a long term Noosa Surfer and had a couple of boards like that. The last photo has First Point in the background which is Bobby's old stomping ground. He hasn't been seen for a while.

Just wondering.

Thanks

Awesome collectors piece mate, Wegenor, if not already, will become a legend of Australian longboarding.

Did you happen to catch his "wood is good" mini docco on youtube? Interesting read and covers that style of board.
