Hi All,
I didn't get pics of the build, but I've now got the board, so here's the pics!
Creative Army Jive, 9'6" x 23 1/2" x 3".
Got the call early last week.
Took Friday off to go get it, and stayed a couple of nights camping at the Noosa River Holiday Park. Surfed until my arms fell off, then surfed some more.
The pics don't do the colours, or at least the red, justice (FYI - that's Josh in the pics, lifted from his instagram account).
The pic I took of the board in the trees shows the red with more light on it. In full sun, it pops even more!
Simply a stunning board to look at. Had numerous people comment on it on the beach/in the car park.
It was difficult to wax it up and cover that beautiful red.
It's built as a single fin board. While I tend to prefer 2+1, he was adamant to keep it as a single, and he knows better than I do! He supplied it with one of his signature 10" Glide fins.
It's a solid 1/2 foot shorter and ~20L less than what I normally ride - and I wanted to smaller board than usual to 'celebrate' losing a tonne of weight.
It surfs like a dream. First paddle out was wide of First Point - I wanted to be clear of the rocks and crowd. Checking it out before starting the paddle out, I watched a couple of surfers where I was aiming for paddle for and miss a bunch of waves. I didn't have high hopes. But first wave I paddled for, she took off. Such a fun board to ride. To be clear, I can't nose ride. Never put the time into developing that skill. But playing around with it, I found myself very close to the nose, every time I gave it a shot... which was always at the end of the wave. Turns beautifully, at least in terms of my poor turns.
In my head, the fin is a little large for it - I want to try it with a 9" or 9.5" 4A fin. I reckon that would be about perfect.
I absolutely love the board and how it came out.
It's my third custom from Josh, and following Macaha's footsteps, I've tried to keep the colours to a theme.
First board is a 10'1" that's the grey, with the red on the nose, albeit both a little darker.
Second is a 10'3" Jumbo Jive Mini Glider, that has the colours split along the stringer, albeit both a bit lighter.
We already started talking about what we'd do, colourwise, for the next board. I just don't know if I'm going to ever need another board?
Very long story short, I'm a very happy man.
