Just swapped over to a Fatboy to try and get more bite in the wave when going for a wander. So my question is where I've set it is it too far back for me to make reasonable turns? Also is it far back enough to hold in the wave better???![]()

I've never user one, but wouldn't you have it further forward that the old fin because it rakes back further
surf it and you will know. Fin placement is a personal taste.
Nice fin,i like the one i use.
Mine is a tad bit forward, but i like it there on the beachies i surf
Expected a comment on the board from you macaha

Yeh Steve. I use a fat boy in my mal and the rear of the fin sits about 25mm forward of the tail. So I would suggest try it a bit further forward. What you will find is that you can side slip the tail on take offs on steeper waves but still get good hold when you are up front. Have fun, they are my favorite fin shape.
Great looking fin, I'm gonna get one of those one day...just looks like it would go great on a log, I'd probably have mine fully forward.
How do you find turning with this style Sandsy?
Not a prob. You can really jam the back foot and they don't spin out.
just took a photo of a photo,

Try keeping a fin key on a lacky band around your wrist, heaps easier than fumbling around in pockets or leggy pockets.
Move it forward and you will turn easier...move it back and you'll hold the tail in for a walk up the front...move it around and eventually you'll find its just right.
everyones different, sooooo many variables,my opinion and approach is trial and error will get you there. 1/4 in movements, start from the fin fully forward working back. Once ive pegged the perfect spot I like a particular fin, I mark the skeg box As I tend to run two to three different fins an a board pending on waves and conditions.
very nice looking tail on that stick by the way.
Its far better to do what mac does.
Use different boards but keep the same fins.
He sees as moving the board up and down the fin.![]()

What he said but I tend to start mine right back and move it forward. being further back means you have to draw out your turns a lot more whereas further forward means you can make smaller/sharper turns... Personally though i'm not a fan of the "one size fits all" type of fin. I prefer a "D" fin style for nice long runners where your looking to stroll to the nose and then more a "Dolphin" or "Greenough" style for sharper turns and speed.
Sick looking board though dude, hope she flies

Agree, that's about where I used to put mine.
Proof I know f@#ck all. Here's ladies world champ Rachel Tilley basically using your fin...

Good find Andy, looks like she has it a fair way forward.

Hows a fin going to help him drink coffee?

I know! Nothing there works for my logic but it totally worked for her, go figure, might have to give it a roll. ![]()
I wouldn't worry to much about the position they are Similar looking in their pics but completely different at the same time.
Next to each other that don't look the same.
Hers is a wingnut cutaway.Yours is a Farrelly or fat boy fin. They have different rake, different measurements, different base and a different design, the Wnut fin is very raked and the Farrelly is more upright.
