Firstly, Disclaimer: I am 90 % certain this is a balsa wood board. If anyone can tell me how to tell for certain I would welcome their advice.
The thing is, I have one, Ive had it for 25 years. A neighbour picked it up from the Walkerville tip because they thought I might like it. I loved it, so I kept it. I've ridden it a few times over the years and ridden it tandem with a hot chick just so that I could say I did. It's not an easy board to ride but it certainly has style.
By my best research it would have been made in the late 50's it was definitely made by John Saffron in Whittington Geelong. I've never seen another one nor have I ever seen another board of its age outside of a museum. It has had a colourful life, it was my coffee table for years, it's been shot more than once, had a hole drilled in it's fin (Sorry I'm no swimmer) and been repaired more times than it cares to remember. I have attached a few photos.
Now 25 years is a long time and it has come time to part ways. But I would like it to go to a good home and this forum seemed like a good place to start. If anyone can point me in the best direction to sell it that would be great. Alternately if anyone would like to make an offer, reasonable offers will be considered. (Please don't insult me with "I'll give you $200", I can be short sometimes). Whilst I am aware the only other one I know of was for sale in Geelong for $3000, I don't know if it was sold and I suspect it was in better condition.
Thanks Heaps,
Jade

PS it is 10'6" Long (Thats a 9'6" ceiling in the photo), 22" wide and 3" thick at it's widest point. Best guess it weighs about 25kg bone dry.
I'm 90% certain that's not balsa..could be wrong hard to tell from those photos...you can try selling it on the Vintage Surfboard Collectors page on face book they may also be able to give you some more info (particularly Bob Smith)....from my experience your probably looking at the $200-600 mark...I'm only going from the photos and your description but it looks like quite a bit of water and sun damage plus whatever holes and **** you put in it over the years...you'll get points if the fins original if you can find someone around Vicco that remembers John you might get a few extra bucks...good luck
Firstly you need a complete photo of the bottom.
Secondly it doesn't look like a balsa board, it looks like a foam board (can't see any wood grain) with maybe a balsa stringer. I've had a balsa board in smick nick and best it got was $2k.
It looks to be early 60's..maybe '62..I'm not up on VIC boards that much but can tell you that I sold a very nice old mal on Ebay and only got $455 for it..so I'd say that being a foam board in only fair nick it's probably worth around $300 - $400.
My recent sale below.
