Hi All,
Just wanted to share a recent board bag purchase, or purchases.
For context, I've been a big supporter of Surf Aids board bags, and always been very happy with the product.
Nonetheless, 6 months or so ago when I got my hands on an old surftech 11' Munoz, the Surf Aids feedback around that time was not great. So I went looking elsewhere.
Obviously, stock bags for an 11' board are limited - but I came across the Curve Boost, that does a variety of sizes, including 11'2" and 12'2" (in case anyone needs longer).
The massive advantage of these bags, is the significant extra padding on the nose and tail. Anyone that's handled a board of that length can appreciate how easy it is to beat the living daylights out of the nose and tail due to the length.
7 mm padding throughout the bag (with 20mm padding on nose and tail).
Zipper runs about 2/3 way down one side for easy entry.
Board bad was $160 with free 10 day shipping (or an extra $40 for 3-5 day shipping).
I'm so impressed with that bag, especially the extra padding on the nose and tail, I'm very tempted to grab the 12' bag to replace the Surf Aids bag that my 12' Munoz sits in!
Now, for my very recent 9'6" Creative Army Jive, I also wanted a board bag - so went straight back to the Curve website.
This time I went for their 'Amourdillo' offering (which they offer up to 10'2").
So much more padding on the nose and tail, wraps further down the sides!
Similarly nice, long zipper.
The additional selling point on these ones is extra padding down the rails.
The bag looks like Fort Knox for your board.
That said, the rail padding isn't as functional as one might assume. Granted, it's better than nothing.
One side, the zipper runs through the padding, which is clear in the images.
But on the other side, the padding is also 'interrupted' by the seam.
Long story short, if you dropped the board directly on the rail, that extra padding isn't adding much protection.
But anything other than a direct hit to the rail, and it's gonna be golden.
The 9'6" Armourdillo - that's with a double L, get your mind out of the gutter - was $195 (again, free 10 day shipping or an extra $40 for 3-5 day shipping - I paid the extra and it took about a week).
I'm very happy with the bag for the price, but would be much happier if the padding wrapped around the rail on with side without the zipper, AND if the handle was on the side with the zipper. As it is, if you're carrying it by the strap/handle, and drop it, it's landing right on the zipper.
Very long story short - if you're in the market for a board bag, check out the Curve Surf offerings.
I've always been a fan of Ocean & Earth aircon bag. I had the original owners of Surf Aids to make a couple of covers for my glider boards until McTAVISH started having covers made, also a great bag but they are heavy duty made more for travel than a day bag.
I have an 11'2 Curve bag it's great until it rains ,they fill with water I find it most annoying when traveling.
When I got out of the water this morning it was raining so I didn't put it in the bag . I have tried put the fin slot down but it still leaks .![]()
Always buy bags with a plastic zip slider, seems most manufacturers use the alloys ones that corrode and stop working.

Interesting... I love the old Surf Aids full length zipper bags, bloody shame they went belly up a few years ago after being sold.
The Curve sounds interesting, I've got a 12'0" glider that I need a bag for so the 12'2" would be ideal for it.
