Just ordered my first Alkali fin. Seems they are about the only true hand shaped fin getting round and reckon she'll be sweet in the Hot Log.
Anyone else using these?
And yes, I know someone already posted this ![]()
lovely fins - one of the boys here has a 10 inch with loads of rake and flex in the tip - done in the 3 shade volan - it is a sight to behold ! He rides it on a 7'6" single and it seems to handle anything.
Ron Goddard - Goddards surfboards also supplies some nice hand made fins made by his mate at Byron , here is a picture of mine on my goddard nimbus latter , the centre fin is the handmade
I make them as well - they work well - I just do not bother polishing them
More to be added to the range when I return. The 10 inch flex tip is high on my agenda.

Sweet looking fin Ted, do you use a mould for the base so it fits the fin box?
My understanding of the Mct is that they are popouts? Looking at the ones on my Mct Bobsled they look pretty basic, only reason I haven't replaced them is I plan on selling the board when I get my Miller subx, quite curious as to the fin on that one too actually. Have held off ordering a replacement till I see/ride it but if it's no good I'll replace it with the Ryan Lovelace I think
No mould for the base. I just laid up a truck load of offcuts on to a piece off an old kitchen cupboard - that I waxed up so the glass would not stick to it - then cut it out. Initially I went to thick so sanded back - then sanded to far and had to fill it up again - its all a learning experience ![]()

I had one of John's fins - the one that TD has on his board - was the most lovely thing you have ever seen in the flesh - a true work of art. Sadly I lost it surfing a few months back - thats why I had to make a fin. Now I have the bug I will be making a few more ![]()

John Deveraux in Coffs makes RG's timber fins...real quality and individual..
Just received these in the mail and WOW, real things of beauty they are. The hand crafted element is really obvious, and the look and feel is totally rad, vastly superior to the Captain and Shapers... Really cant wait to take em for a spin this weekend... YEW!!!
The Thomas Surfboards Signature for the Hot Log'
"Inspired by the height of Australian old mals in the mid 60's this fin incorporates the perfect amount of release and drive for turns along with plenty of hold for nose rides. "I have tried a lot of fins and this is the best combination of every element in one fin. a touch of flex in the tip but not to much so it doesn't get the doughy feeling that real flexy fins can give at times."
The Ryan Lovelace for the Miller SubX
"Ryan Lovelace designed this fin with his mid length v.Bowls boards in mind. Ideal for drawing connected, powerful lines. Happy to cruise, but they really shine when you put some gas into it and get that Volan flexing.Ryan on the fin, “Ride a regular glass fin, then ride one in Volan - the difference is staggering, and when coupled with a good foil, can make quick work of a wave!”Even flex pattern throughout for increased drive."
I certainly do now hahaha
But huge respect for those doing their craft awesome ![]()
I do foresee further additions to the collection tho, probably the full flex to expand the variety... But really should surf the ones have first ![]()
And then this happened...
First surf in average waves, racey over head lefts and Wow!
Beautiful carving turns and just flies out of em, Super hold so I can tell she's going to be a great nose rider in better waves and that alkali craftsmanship is just amazing...
Coupled with the Hot Log it's a match made in heaven, so stoked ![]()

Blood flow. Thats what I have looking at that fin. I touched a few in real life a few weeks back at the Deus store. They are amazing. I have always been a fan of them - I really like the volan ones - they have a nice green tinge.
Glad you enjoying it Andy.
I've noticed that the crew like the gay pride rainbow colours.
in the old days obct would have been on to that like a bad rash![]()
