Hi all,

Upgrading to my first decent board. I've been riding an 8'6 longboard for a few years as well as my shorty.
I've narrowed my search down to a McTav Fireball. The only problem now is deciding between a 9'1 and a 9'6.
I mainly surf points, but do surf beachies at times too.
I'm 6ft 5, 90kg at the moment (but fluctuate between 90-95)
I'm not an awesome surfer, but can ride ok. Im just breaking into the more performance style ride.

The hardest part will be having a minty new board, but no swell

I'm 6'5 & 100kg & just sold a 9'0 Fireball - for me it wasn't a log or HP.

My next-door neighbour has the 9'6 - he is similar size to you, and it is a great board.

I think a bit the same as dazzler. I got the FB in a 9'6" and its got me back into surfing I'm about your size and ability by the sound of it, but it really doesn't fit either the log or HP category well. I'm looking at selling mine and getting two boards that will fit in either niche as opposed to having an all rounder.

Maybe look at what mac said (sorry Macaha) and look at the Evo 2 I find the FB evo at 9'6"a bit too much board in beachies.

How wide and thick are they both.

Length doesn't mean that much. Unless you're impressing the ladies, even then I hear width is the important factor

I am 114kg and surf the 9'1" in beachies ok. From memory it's 66 litres volume. Although a bigger board on tiddler days would be good, I'm not sure that I would like a longer board on fast breaking and pitchy beachies.

Ohhh..If only 62mac was back..

SD, for my input, I am same weight 90kg but little taller Allthough my mals are not McT, I ride a 9'3x 22 7/8 x 2 3/4 HP thuster set up
Set up for me is brilliant, plenty of float and still good to go up to 4ft.. Most of what is open beach. After that I change boards...either shorty or i go to a single fin 9'1 x 22 x 2 1/2.
cheers

Rode a 9'6 for years, awesome board that I sold to a mate who now loves it.

IMO go the 9'1 - at times the 9'6 was a bit too much of a board. None the less I surfed my 9'6 up and down the coast on beach breaks, points, and all sort of reef breaks.

At a few waves down south the 9'1 would have been good ha ha geez I copped a beating!

I had a 9'3" x23" X 3" Fireball and at only 70kgs found it a good allround board..really seemed to accelerate when you got up the front and stable as.

Well, pulled the trigger on the 9'6.
I'm sure I'll regret it at some stage and want the shorter 9'1. But had I gone the shorter option, I'm sure I would have regretted that at some point also.
Can't wait to get her moist.

Sick board! Mine was the first mal I rode and have surfed a few since and still think it was the best I have ever had. So much glide and cruise but when you gave it a poke on big clean waves it flew and was really responsive!

If a mate borrowed it for a spin in the line up, found it hard to get it back ha ha

Get stuck in mate!

Pup, I exchanged emails with your favourite shaper today.
A couple of weeks back, we both received the same email so I dropped him a line or 2.
It appears he spent a few years at my local early 70's and we know the same people although 20 years apart.
There's reunion/book launch in a few months so we may have a beer or 20 if he can make it down.

Got it from Local knowledge at Nobbys.
I'd been sniffing around the second hand market for a while, but got tired of looking.
Called around a few shops and they happened to have what I wanted.
