Well that was having a super session *on my own* on Western Port early Sunday morning (anyone else who got a bit of it - look up the word 'serendipitous'), and was paddling out on my 8'10" Prowave after catching a wave, standing up not prone.
Punched through wave with whitewater one, no probs, punched through whitewater II no probs, went to punch through whitewater III and...
**WHAMMO!**
Board didnt punch through, rather flipped up, and the front of the board square hit me square in the face!!!
As the claret started to drip from the snoz, I was in the water have a major WTF session with myself.

Anyone ever had this happen? Its as though the board 'caught' the whitewater and flipped backwards straight at me. What stance should i have to stop this ever happening again?!?!!

Blood or not, still was good for a few more waves as i was having such an incredibly good time

Nose swelled up bigger than a melon. Got caught by the lip and slammed.

My best answer is - fatigue. The third wave may have been bigger but the main factor may have been that you were anticipating the power of the wave and leant back a bit more than previous increasing the angle of attack of your board and the impulse of the wave overcame your ability to 'hop up' over the wash.
You got owned mate enjoy and go harder next time!
