Update - Phillip Island and Morn peninsula around 10 - 15 Mrch, looking at caravan parks, free camping and national parks - only found two - Anchorage park and Seaview park - Big 4 looks too civilised! Nat parks? Free camping ( near water/beach )?
Surfies point any good for SUP
Point Leo area - Nat parks? Free camping? Mornington peninsula looks sort of rural on google, is it?

Surfies point was one of my fav spots and is a great Reef break, not sure how Sup is received there by the locals?? Lots of spots on the Island Cat Bay may be better suited if the wind is SE and is a much longer ride.
Pt Leo is very Sup friendly and further up the beach to Flinders, one side of the Peninsula is country beach holiday home area and the other side is beach side suburbia.

I have a house near Anchorage on Phillip Island. Never stayed there but looks pretty nice - lots of grass areas, fireplaces I think. Don't think you can free camp anywhere legally, but if you avoid the rangers you'll get away with it. There are campers tucked away in spots all over the Island.
Anchorage well located for Cat Bay or Smiths, a few others.

I havent been there since the 70s but I remember very big tide diferences some day we waited all day for the right tide to surf certain spots.Woolamai beach would be good for SUP Vee banks everywhere held together by rock bottom. And also Right point (located on the north western tip of the island) from memory would be SUP heaven. Go and check out express point at high tide not to SUP but just to watch,I remember being the only stand boarder out with about 10 kneeboarders very steep takeoff straight into the barrel and then get off before the rocks get you ...great fun. Hope this helps.
