seen the results for the tested 12'6 race boards well put together by pt woody and the boys .has anything been done for the 14ft boards yet or has any one tried numerous 14 footers who isn't overly biased
to one brand.
Waiting on a board to arrive from Perth, being used in the Doctor today, and once that gets here, we aim to put the 14' Starboard, Naish and Fanatics and a a couple others through their paces.
Lacey would be an obvious choice to have a good go at this imo.
He has owned/paddled more boards than any other breezer and is independent and unbiased. He also does a fair amount of flatwater paddling vs downwinding.
the way this post has gone the 'result' has already be made![]()
to be honest, this isn't/can't be an independent trial. the personal from what i can see aren't independent.
shouldn't even bother imho
I thought the testing was to include multiple paddlers anyway. Surely that balances out any perceived imbalances ?
i don't mean to offend any one, but surely you can see my point.
somebody who doesn't paddle or have any ties to production boards is a much better indicator.
by being a 'certain brand fan' tester you leave yourself open to critic's of the whole testing
credibility and probably piss of the other brands that don't rate that well while your at it
cheers
ps ie 'you' being any tester who is a certain production brand fan
i'm not sure the dr was a true indication of 14 foot testing , I don't think any east coast paddlers had the oppurtunity to bring a 25inch wide flat water board just in case the wind didn't blow . if the test pt woody did was the same as the 12'6 i don't see how that can be called biased at all, different size riders and multiple runs its the best that anyone could do imo![]()
I'm not sure why the criticism is being throw around here. I haven't gone back to the 12'6" test post, but I recall that there were 5 or 6 different paddlers each paddling the test boards over a set course, which was timed.
If the same methodology is applied to the 14' boards, then how can there be a pre-determined result? Is it implied that everyone is, say, dogging it when they paddle the Naish and busting a gut when paddling a Starboard? That seems to me to be the only way a result can be rigged. I know the people involved and that's not going to happen. Also, they did say "production board" test. I'm sure PT Woody and his "mythbusters" team would gladly do a "custom" 14'er test if various shapers want to provide a board or two.
Disclosure: I know those who did the original test, but wasn't involved in it.
However, I would be happy to donate my Jamie Mitchell prototype 14'er to the next test if PT Woody wants to include it. Not sure that it qualifies - it probably sits between custom and production, as I understand it was one of the prototypes (not the final one, I think) used to develop the JM Surftech board.
Where are they being tested? Flatwater, downwind... If it's going to be on flatwater you're probably wasting your time as not many people (I know) would buy a 14 for flatwater. If it's downwind on the ocean it would be impossible to control all the variables.
Well, each to their own views, I suppose.
I'm no big racer, just enjoy catching a few waves, doing the odd downwinder and the occasional flat water paddle - but I'm interested in seeing the results of these types of tests. These sorts of things help spur development.
Hey Rosscoe, no need to donate your Jamie Mitchell 14 for the test, Surftech are sending us a demo production board next week, which we'll make available for the test. Can't wait to take it for some training runs first though, before the SHQ Cruise to the Cerebus on February 12th![]()
Cheers

I remember doing a similar test with paddles. I couldn't even detect a time difference using dodgy self timing on a wrist watch with hands (analogue).
