Hi All,

Just wondering which fins people are using & which fins people would recommend for downwind/ocean boards?

Thanks

Pretty impressed by the new Futures lineup. Already love the JM but looking forward to trying out the Byron Kurt model that lobs in to the country in a week or two.

Thanks Sam, is it worth investing in a JM compared to a regular axe type longboard fin?

Just checked out the Shapers Axe and the JM side by side and the biggest difference seems to be in the foil and finish quality. Foil is noticeably thinner and more refined with a near perfect finish on the JM.

Might be mental thing but after years of being a little fanatical about windsurfing fins I just like good fins and find they are worth the money.

my take is the jm is a bit faster, but doesn't surf as well as the axe. the jm foil on the carbon version is particularly thin. i believe too thin makes them a bit knifey to surf.

there is big price difference between the two

i currently use the jm on my 14' er

IMO.. you should be looking at one of these two shaped fins for a downwind board.. unless you have lots of weed to deal with.

Thanks Guys,

DJ thats a great pic, simple explanations for the normal guy to understand, I came across that a couple weeks ago and posted it on my blog the other day, whilst researching for different options.

my current board came with a weed fin, dont really have a weed problem in my area. Found that that fin has a huge base but not much length 8" (has a huge surface area though), not really a fan of it in the ocean. (Will be good for paddling up the rivers in our area after big rains)

Thats why I wanted to see what everyone else is using before committing to anything.
