You've probably heard rumours and whispers about this one for weeks, but now the details are finally out of the bag.

The Waikiki Paddle Festival
www.supracer.com/waikiki-paddle-festival-jamie-mitchell-video-announcement/ will be held on May 5th & 6th and it looks like it'll be one of the biggest (and most exciting) SUP races of the year.

Check out Jamie Mitchell and Peter Mel announce the event below...

I think the new "Survivor Format" is the coolest part of this whole event (though the $30k plus prize money doesn't hurt either...).

Looks like it's gonna be a lot of fun... So who's heading over?

Great stuff Chris!

Looks like it could be a really good event!

Maybe someone with some $$$ could sponsor a charter plane to send all the Currumbin creek crew and their boards over to compete

Gee , a few dollars starting to be pumped into the sport , with the type of money being offered Ill bet athletes from other sports will start to take notice , Kayakers , rowers , surf life savers ect.

That Survivor format does look good. So many of our races fall into a set pattern within the first 5 minutes. This will keep it interesting.

Hey Jen,

Stay and do this one on oahu cos they have moved the olukai race to the following weekend now, so it fits in with this new race.

It will be great fun.

The eliminator format sounds great for both competitors and spectators a like although the 50 competitors in a heat sound challenging. I guess they can always tinker with the format based on entry number. Will this morph into an Uncle Toby's Super Series of Stand Up Paddling? Perhaps Jamie's background as a clubbie could have him taking some of the better formats from ironman races into the world of SUP racing. All looks good and could we be seeing some of the top paddlers on the back of cereal boxes sometime in the future???
