Funny how these two comments spawned such a cavalcade of hate. Husq & I were merly saying that there may be a problem in posting those picks. Neither of us had a problem with piros on a personal level and like I said I like sexy chick shots ect.

Lots of knee jerk response from many posters here and I bet most did read the original posts.

I would have posted my concerns regardless of what forum the picks were posted.

It's Friday go for a surf ffs

No it was the latter posts referring to such things as 'moral judgement' amongst others that probably got up most people's noses.

I have already had a surf and feeling much better thanks.

but you calling the only 2 people here (myself and doggie), that questioned the photos from nothing more than a legal standpoint, negative wankers before I had even replied more than that simple first question..................but hey as long as your all pissing in each others pockets

So your point here being that those calling you a negative wanker based on your initial erroneous legal argument were in fact premature, right? At that point in time, you were merely ignorant, but not a negative wanker. You didn't become a negative wanker until you attempted to dovetail the discussion into a moral issue. Is that what you're saying?

no, I was actually just curious if there was an actual law considering it was being done under a brand (Von Piros) alot of times there are laws but the norm prevails otherwise......looks like there are actually laws in WA....

my reaction was to all that immediately jumped on the "negative" train and fired shots....so I just gave some food for thought in return, responding to those that were aiming for me

I know im preaching to the converted (as in your just having a dig like the rest) dig away. ill stand my ground....

so while we are at it think about this also.....

this being a SUP sub-forum, where even a topic about a sup board got moved, yet there is nothing in this thread regarding SUP........

others have been banished for "pimping" their goods....

and now we get to pay for these "high quality" shots because Piros got offended that someone on a public forum didnt agree with his ethos

So over this thread, but here goes.....

Look mate, maybe the word 'wanker' was a little strong so apologies for the name calling - I usually refrain from that, maybe i was having bad day. This is all a bit like when you say something stupid to ya misses and she keeps banging on about it.

I do have some comments regarding some of your (and others) views re 'pimping', self promotion, clickiness, cheerleading, etc on these forums - as there seems to be a few people who feel that way.

My personal view - and I was a complete newbie this time 2 years ago - was the forum was a great source of info (and still is). Whether that comes from someone trying to flog their customs by putting up a vid, or help their sponsor by putting up pics/vids, or someone showing their favourite brand off, or the paddle they did on the river - it's all good I reckon. Would be a very boring forum without these crew imo.

Same goes for the people who offer a different point of view, or like to disagree with everything, fark who cares it just a bloody forum and I think it was Makaha who said it, 'it's better than telly' - it's all good.

The only stuff that sh#ts me is when negative comments appear that might discourage said contributions mentioned above. This is probably why I 'bit' on the thing about Rob's photos (even though rightly so, people ARE entitled to their opinion).

I know of some examples where people have stopped contributing because of these sorts of comments. Personally I couldn't give a rats and will continue to bang on and put pics/vids up and so on. Even DJ cops it from time to time and he is a massive contributor.

As far as the so called 'clickiness' well I reckon that's just bull and is more a case of the fact that quite a few people on here have gotten to know the other crew either personally or simply through contributing regularly to the forum - get over it. The longer term users would know that anyways.

Rant over, have a nice day

no worries Goatman, I have appriectated your info on boards etc and surf vids. As far as meeting people here, just remember the GC is a small place and there are alot more Sup'rs here (GC) than just on Sea Breeze.....what is said off the record is very often never said on the record....I personaly dont agree with that and tend to speak my mind....I would say the same to Rob in person, how he takes it is up to him.....after all Im just 1 person and its JUST my opinion.....

after speaking to a mate in the surf industry, there seems to be a BIG grey area around the whole leagal side of things....He runs a surfschool, and they can not take pics of their cliengts without their permission.....he also noted the Lifegaurds have had the police come to the beach and remove people taking pics of girls in public........

regarding the negative views, its seems to be a one way street for some here. I have seen plenty of the so called "positive contributors" knock/bag etc other brands/methods and seems more from those affiliated with a brand etc. As far as upsetting them and they wont keep adding, how about some of your own advice to me....HTFU...its a public forum and you cant please all of the people all of the time. Maybe you have or havent noticed, but some have already left because of the cheerleading here. Others have read and left before joining because of the BS...remember there is a difference between someone offering a simple opinion or posting a vid and a person marketing a product/service where they have something to gain

A big contributing factor to this is the consistancy of the moderators here....just take alook at the Sup Surfing section, some board stuff stays and some gets moved to boards....with know real rhyme or reason????

I don't know, wanker is the first word that comes to my mind too.

The legal aspect is plain silly. Step way back and take a look at the internet. See all those folks enforcing privacy laws. No? Hmmm. Me either.

To have a privacy issue you need an expectation of privacy. Walk on a public beach with your ass hanging out and you pretty much forfeit that, even if you have a bit of cottage cheese. I use model releases like confetti, but mostly I just roundfile them when the project is done. So why use them--because it makes people think the effort is pro. That's it. Take a look at the recommendations of photographer sites concerning releases. Most acknowledge that they are not necessary, but WTF, people expect them.

But WAY more to the point, other than someone yanking a three page issue out of their butt, who the f*%K cares? Did Australia suddenly grow a whole fleet of American lawyers and litigious jerkoffs? Hey, they'd probably snicker at this in California.

Wussamatter, don't you guys have any surf?

Didn't I remember a slew of Aussies telling folks on the Zone to HTFU and get a sense of humor about the Rusty brouhaha.

Negative hater of pioneers here before you start I am just taking the p-ss

Pimping has been part of the site for a long time and I am fine with it,however I do get dam sick of viewing pictures that are promoting a business from members of the forum ( kick backs ) comes to mind. Its so obvious its laughable at times.
I agree with husq on a couple of points, some inconsistency with some threads deleted or moved. This gets me thinking, why and who is behind it.

I would reframe from getting personal and name calling.I have a mate who WAS a forum member until he received threating phone calls, now thats just going too far.
Not that he feared the threats, trust me this guy can take care of himself but the comment he made to me was Charlie Sheen like,They cant handle the truth.

I wonder if there is any legal problems with taking peoples pictures, posting them on the internet without their knowledge or consent, especially when used within a brand?????

I was thinking the same thing, don't get me wrong I like nice picks of girls ect but generally I think if someone looking on this site and recognized a friend ect, you could get in a bit of trouble. Privacy laws ect might come into play.

That said some nice shots, what size lens? Looks like a 500mm

exactly my thoughts! I don't want my sexy photos posted on the net without my knowledge. Men...men... and you wonder why we wonder what you do on your supposedly kitesurfing holiday?
