VICCO SUP SURFERS and Racers

Please Read the Following about Important Changes to Vic State SUP Titles in 2015!!!

Surfing Victoria, supported by SUPVIC, will be making a significant change to the way surfing state titles will be organised in 2015. For 2015 there will be a qualifying system with TWO optional pathways to the State Titles in 2015. This is a VERY different scheme from previous years and is designed to ensure (as best as possible) that there will be good wave opportunities for competitive SUP surfers.

There will be TWO Qualification rounds (surf one or both, up to you)

The SUPVIC/PSUPS Peninsula Classic on November 23rd 2014

AND

The Surfing VIC Festival of SUP in January 2015 at Inverloch, January 9 & 10 2015.

Top-ranked competitors in each division from these events will then be invited to compete at a Surfing Victoria State Titles which will be run in conjunction with one of the following Surfing Vic open events (depending on conditions):

Phillip Island 7/8 Feb 2015; or
Gunnamatta 14/15 Feb 2015; or
Longboard Open (Possos) 16/17 May

If conditions are good for SUP the State titles will be run at Phillip Island on 7/8 Feb. if conditions are not suitable at the Island that weekend, the state titles will revert to Gunnamatta on 14/15 Feb. If not suitable at Gunnamatta, they will then revert to the Longboard Open event at Point Impossible on 16/17 May.

As said above - this is designed to Give SUP Surfing Titles in VIC the best opportunities available for good waves in competition.

In addition, Technical racing and Distance qualifiers for state selection will be run at the January Inverloch event (more about that later from Surfing Vic) and there will be separate SUPVIC-supported Technical and Distance and series during 2014/5 for racers who can't make it to Inverloch. This scheme is designed to give competitive paddlers a greater range of options for qualifying for the state team (rather than the "one event-one location" model of the last few years). We're also working on expanding the Surf options for 2015/16 to include a couple more events if this new model is well-supported.

There will be further announcements about the Inverloch Festival of SUP and the SUPVIC Distance and Technical series in the next couple of weeks.

In the meantime - come along give it a good crack at the SUPVIC/PSUPS Peninsula Classic!
