I did what I thought was a nice tight little forehand roundhouse cutty on a right the other day. I lent right back on the paddle to bring it round for the initial heal-side turn. Then coming back around for the toe-side bit I realized it was going to have to be a quick and tight, so I instinctively threw the paddle out over the other side without changing hands to wrench it back around. At full extension I pivoted round the blade with a heap of pressure on the paddle and projected out and down the line.

Felt awesome, though slightly awkward.
Walking up to the car I felt a little twinge in my lower back and before long was in quiet a bit of pain.
After the first Chiro visit today it's feeling much better and she'll be all good I'd say after the second.
I might think twice before getting myself all tweaked out and loaded up like that again.
Anyone else had a similar experience. I notice some guys always doing the quick grip change through their turns while others (like that young Byron on the PSH's) do the little reverse grip pivot.
Your thoughts...
For surfing use a shorter paddle , it's keeps the head closer to the board , much more responsive and reduces the chance of over an extension. I call it the "Ralf Harris Syndrome" , keep that third leg close to the body.
Agree with the shorter paddle
.See ya doc' and get some 50mg diclofenac tablets,I've got osteo arthrittus in my shoulder and the doc pescribed it for me but it also relives my back my knees my ankles and every other ache and pain I suffer from.Only use them when you really need to and alls good.![]()
Thanks for the replies guys, but I wasn't really wanting to get into the Chiro vs Osteo vs Physio argument. That's at least a 5 page argument I don't necessarily want to be the start off.![]()

But for what it's worth, much like the SUP vs Shortboard vs Mal argument it's all about the quality of care from the individual practitioner not the group to which they belong, IMHO![]()
And I already have a pretty short paddle. Though it is a quiet a large-ish area blade. Laird Surftech from many years ago that's served me well. Only one I've ever used.
I don't SUP with that many other SUPers so I suppose what i really wanted to know is do other people still use that little crossed up technique to complete your cutty's without any issues ???
Just to throw another one into the mix... I just had some acupuncture and cupping on my back and it feels much better ![]()
