Does anyone have any recommendations or advice for travel insurance that will cover you for SUP racing when overseas?
All of the policies I have looked at have a general exclusion for "Racing (other than foot)"
ie they'll cover you if you're involved in a foot race, but no other sort of racing.
Not much help for a SUP race...
So particularly in the US, where it will cost you your arm and your leg to get medical treatment, I can't find any policy that will provide racing cover.
Surely this issue has been solved before?
I off to Maui for a month of DW action including Maliko race and Maui to Molokai. Hooked onto travel insurance that covers Paddleboarding ...it may come under a different heading I.e Offshore water activities >10 nautical miles out / this cover was an addition to the standard policy + adventure pack (which covers most cool stuff you would want to do in Maui).
I purchased through Defence Health, you don't need to be a Defence Force Member. www.defencehealth.com.au/travel-insurance/
Or you can always check out Allianz who underwrite Defence![]()
Hey thanks for the reply Antix.
Looks like I posted in the wrong part of the forum, but anyway...
So I looked up your policy, and in the standard policy there is a similar "racing" exclusion - see section C2 on page 46, which would rub you out for cover for the M2M, unless you plan to run it on foot...
The Adventure Pack PDS seems to have the same exclusion clause.
Or am I not reading this correctly? Let me know?
After posting last night I did manage to find a policy that I'm poring through to find / not find a similar racing exclusion clause.
So far looking the goods.
You specify the activity you want to do, and they have a rating system.
Paddling is a "level 1" automatic cover

Probably worth checking with the race organisers. In Aus (depending on who is running the event) if you are a member of the organisation running the event you are also covered by the organisers insurer for personal injury during the event.
Thanks AndyR & Kenoo.
I'd expect that the Pro's have individual specific policies for themselves, given the nature of their Professional status / Income Protection needs etc etc.
The Race website is silent in Insurance, except for a big fat Waiver & Indemnity clause for the organisers at the start of the registration process.
Am still poring through the worldnomads website looking for the devil in the fine print, bit so far it looks the goods...
