Looks like they have been getting a bit of swell in Ireland the last few days. Looks damn cold! Balls of steel - Hats off to all involved.

That's a great looking wave and love that first pic , I think you could almost paddle into that on a SUP.

I love they the way they try to keep the spot secret but then a post a video on You Tube and broadcast it world wide.

This is from the article:

"The place we were at on Monday is as good as it gets," he added.

"Hawaii used to be the wave mecca around the world, but now we've got three or four big wave locations in the country and this wave spot here is one of the best in the world."

That's just waving a red flag to the rest of the world......come over here and surf. I hope he made alot of money out of that video because next time he goes out , there will probably be other teams already out getting towed in and back dooring it.

Maybe you can - Not me! Far too big for me.....those guys had an expozay of their big wave spots in one of the surf mags about a year ago which made for some interesting reading. I am not so sure that crowds will be such an issue for them for a while. Mavericks got busy overnight - but its only 25 odd miles north of a massive metropolitan city. I have surfed on the west coast of Ireland and you need some serious local knowledge to not only find the waves but also to get the timing right as the tides are massive - a 1 ft grumpy mess on a low tide can be 4ft perfection on the incoming in some places.

Anyway its human nature for most of us to tell people where we have been. Maybe they want some company? Or more likely some exposure for sponsorship dollars.....

An Irish girl did an internship with us that is part of the core crew over there. She explained to me that surfing is very young in Ireland, there are very few capable surfers and even fewer that are surfing big waves. There is basically no industry. These guys try to expose everything they do in an effort to try and make a living from being pro surfers.

The cold and inconsistency are the biggest factors to stop the crowds. But if a few big name guys went over with their film crews it would be a success for the Irish guys as they would feature as well as guides and surfing hence further creating employment for themselves. I spent a lot of time in Cornwall and with Irish heritage I still kick myself for not getting over there.

After reading about the Irish economies financial problems, the high unemployment rates etc some exposure to the surfing spots might lead to a surf tourism lead recovery, given how bloody cold it is in the water, it would make sense for the Irish surfers to get a couple of SUP boards, at least they would be able to stay in the water for longer.

Totally agree , so why not name the spot ? that's the bit I don't understand.

The cold will keep it safe I would love to surf it and film it BUT brrrrrrrrrrrrr......
