I'm looking forward to it.. It's a very protected spot for those who've never been to Sandridge.. So the light west-south west breeze forcast should not effect the paddling much.. I'll be marshaling on the corse but I hope some will join me for a social paddle..

Registration for the main race closes at 5pm Saturday which only leaves one day.

If you do not own a PFD and you are unable to access one before Sunday, let us know as we have a limited number of vests available courtesy of SUPB HQ StKilda and Sandy Beach HQ paddle schools.

For those travelling from the south of the city Beach Rd will be closed on Sunday morning between Balcombe Rd, Black Rock and Dendy St, Brighton and Glen Huntly Rd, Elwood to Kerferd Rd, Albert Park.

See you at Sandridge.

Alan.

Hi

Does anybody have recommendations on where best location to park? for at least 4hrs.

Having not raced at all is it best to do the 6k rather than the "12k elite" Sounds a bit serious, comfortable with the distance, just thinking the paddlers might all be pretty intense?

Thanks

Hi Aquainc, the "intense" guys will clear out off the line very quickly and won't cause you any distress so feel free to go whichever distance you feel comfortable with.

As for parking, it's all free on the street and there's also the small car park at the Sandridge Life Saving Club, then the larger carpark right up on the bend for Surf Life Saving Victoria. All free parking all day.

Hope the day goes well - I'm sure it will be a fun day with lots of serious and social paddling! Good luck with the conditions - it's WSW with showers here on the MP.

OK OK who was hiding the performance enhancing cup cakes

Sheesh now we know Lukes secret

No boards, people or animals were injured in the taking of the above images.

All injuries and damage occurred after they were shot!

Surely you got more shots of the Red Bull girls as well as the lovely representative from Sunny King without that nuff-nuff messing up the shot.

Great images again David,

Props to the whole SUP Vic team all the sponsors and everyone elese it takes to put an event like that together.

I think close 100 competitors entered, I counted them as they paddled past me.

Huge range of boards on display if you couldn't find a race weapon of war in amongst that lot then you were a bit stiff.

Thanks to the Dog Miester for kitting out Nesha with a Surftech super weapon and DJ for the loan of a leggie as one got left behind in the 5am mad scramble out the door.

I borrowed the Surftech Lopez 14 but didn't really do it any justice however I can say that even with 120 kegs on it super stable and cut nicely through the chop so if your a bigger unit give it a whirl and see how it goes.

It was my first time out on the water in one of these races and getting lapped by Cam and Luke seeing them power away is a pretty interesting experience.

The elite guys have their own race pretty much right from the start but there are 30 other rivalries happening at the same time.

I guess then theres people like me just wanting to get around the course and see what its like and what it takes to get there.

You definitely don't have to be Olympic standard to have fun.

Come along have a crack, try out a few board and enjoy the vibe!

Thanks DJ. More images coming shortly, courtesy of Jodi Stevenson at White Caps Photography who shot the event for us.

I agree, a great day, and for me personally, I was rapt to finish the 12km course and not get lapped! It was a little bit challenging especially as you got to the end of the wharf rockwall and emerged from the wind shadow into a 15kn side wind and chop, but the course held up well, offering two nice downwind legs, and using the rockwall to minimise the headwind legs. Congrats to Al Fairlie, Race Director on setting the course; not what was planned but always the 'B' Course as it was designed to cater for.

Great to see so many boards that we don't normally get to see down here in Vicco, although race-day organisation meant I didn't get to try any out. Thanks to RPS for the load on the Naish inflatable for my 4yo daughter Annabelle to paddle in the kids race on, and to Ke Nalu for the cute cut-down xTuf wiki paddle. Even though she fell off, she bravely got back up and finished the race with proud Dad kneeling behind her! That's the Spirit!

Next up is the RPS Half Moon Bay Blast on December 16th with the SUP VIC Christmas party following on after the race...

Thanks Sean for the footage.

As I was on the beach marshalling, I had no idea it was that glassy up along the rock wall!!

Great turnout, great teamwork by Sup Vic and a great result for paddling in Victoria.
