The Leave Pass SUP Event Sun March 6

In lieu of the cancelled SHQ Race, a few of us have got together and decided that seeing as we already have the morning scheduled in, and for many already have 'leave-passes' from our families, that we will hold our own impromptu race this Sunday @ 9:30am. It's the Clayton's Race: The Race you are having when you aren't having a race...

Up for grabs is a slab and a couple of bottles of wine, plus anything else anyone wants to kick in, but mainly it's just a chance to get out, stretch the arms and legs and have fun on what's shaping up to be a better day weather-wise than most of the official race days we have had this Summer.

Date: Sunday 6th March
Time: 9:30am Race Start
Place: TBA - posted on this forum by midday Friday.

Watch this space later in the week for more details.

SPREAD THE WORD - The more the merrier!

Post here or PM me if you are interested so we can track numbers - Teeps

NOTE:
This is an unofficial race, with no formal organising body, and and all paddlers turn up under their own volition. If anyone asks, it's just a bunch of mates having a paddle at the same time, in the same direction, finishing at the same place. Nothing wrong with that, right!?

This sounds like a great plan.

I should mention, Sunday is also Clean Up Australia Day so if there's a group interested, we could consider racing on the Yarra River between the Fairfield and Studley Park boathouses (about 5km) then on the return leg, we could each fill a bag of floating garbage and then have lunch together (not eating the garbage).

Just a thought.

Or if people would rather race on the bay, just beware that there is the Sandringham/Brighton Festival at Green Point and there is a triathlon at Elwood so those two areas are out. Maybe north of Elwood (StKilda) or south of Sandringham (Black Rock/Ricketts Point).

sounds good, one thought with such a group of bodgy suppers cruising the yarra, will the water police hassle about pfd's. depending on the wind maybe we could do up around Port to St kilda areas, we could do like the cyclists, minus lycra of course, a short paddle followed by latte's at the cafe, or else as they did in them olden days, light a fire on the beach and have a few bongs.... mmm just a thought!

Bothy ideas sound great.Had a paddle at Studley Park today.Good for when the bays a bit windy(or people get tired of waiting for me as l fall off).May pop into Fairfield tommorow. lf anyone wants to check a course for reference.Bring a bag for tennis balls.
Also may be a little too far North but noticed a few kayakers at Sandridge beach ,Port Melb.Any chance of a Northerly up and Southerly seabreeze back

Glad to see a few takers - it doesn't have to be competitive, I just thought it might add a sense of urgency, give us something to push hard for, get the heart-rate up!
If the consensus is for just a group social paddle, then the slab would make a nice refresher to end with!

Of course, any paddle out as far as the Beacon would necessitate consideration of suitable safety equipment and precautions. Luckily we are a responsible bunch.

This event doesn't seem to be getting much support so I suggest we let it go and those looking for something to do on Sunday morning might like to come down to West StKilda Beach and help out the SUP Bus and Kite Republic crew in their Clean Up Australian Day efforts...

And in the arvo, there's always the Brighton / Sandy Festival at Green Point (north) with SUP demos courtesy of SHQ and SUP VIC.
