Hi All.
Has anyone supped Banyaks and Simeulue areas of North Sumatra. Waves like bay of plenty and treasure island?
Im heading there in April and wondered if any comments on suitability for supping and if it really is as uncrowded as some report. I seem to doubt that.
Also if anyone has experience of taking an 8.2 SUP on the local flights like from Nias to Medan etc. I've heard they walk on a huge fair for boards or extra luggage.
Appreciate any comments.

I went to simeulue a few years ago, stayed at aura surf camp and took a 8.0 pro wave.

There's a great 'a' frame peak right in front of the resort which is awesome, had it 4-6 foot and it handles bigger there were a couple of other sup's there from a surf camp nearby.
plenty of other spots on the island if you want to travel around.
Was a bit of a hassle going via Medan with all the flights but no prob with the board
cheers

Thanks Jaime. music to my ears. I'll be joining a friend on his yacht and hopefully spending about a month sailing from north tip of Sumatra to Nias.

No worries hope you have a great time. That far up north they're not affected by the trades so it's glassy all day, we went in June

It's a beautiful and laid back island. The locals are super friendly as it's pretty remote from the usual Bali type over commercialised islands and not easy to get to.
I grabbed a surf camp moped and went discovering different reefs/breaks that were exposed after the big earthquake.
As lizardman said, if there's a spare spot let me know.

Hi Tanaman,

I was on Simeulue in September 22, took a 7'8 Hipster Twin, and had no issues even wrapped in a ton of bubble wrap in an 8'0 board bag.
Flew to Medan via Singapore and then on to Simeulue. Lots of spots with rooms for a SUP and most were relatively quiet when we were there. We stayed at Aura Surf Resort too (recommended). Its an island of slab reefs so recommend lots of spare fins

Enjoy,

Michael

Thanks for your input Michael. Great to know it's possible and by sounds of things not too difficult or costly.
How were crowds, waves and general supping there?
Ill be taking an 8.2 Sunova speeed.
cheers
