Hey everyone, I have shopped around and changed my mind on what board to buy about 6 times now, I think I have decided on the sunova speed, 9'11 or 10', I know they are big boards but I am 6'3 and 120 kg
have surfed most of my life,
thoughts?
Hey JDM,
I'm a tad lighter than you at ~100kgs, but similar height. I got myself a 9'5" Speeed just this weekend, and took it for the first paddle Sunday morning. I'd say don't discount the 9'5 - at 160L it would be easily doable for you at 120kgs, particularly as you're a surfer. The 10' is a biggggg board at 34" wide. The 9'11 is a possibility, but I'm not the worlds best paddler and I was comfortable on the 9'5" immediately. Maybe demo if you can
Hi JDM,
I ride the 8'8" speeed and love it. 90kg and find the speeed surprisingly stable for the width...surf it in any condition. Super fast board and great for flying down the line with a big hack.
Thanks mate, was thinking the 10' was too big
hard to demo big boards where I live,
Yeah I understand. I went back & forth deliberating for a long time between a 10' Steeze and a 9'7 Creek, before deciding on the 9'5 Speeed. It's a decent amount of coin to lay down so it's nice to get as much info as you can, but it can get a bit overwhelming as everyone has different wants/needs/styles. I honestly don't think you would go wrong with the 9'5 or 9'11 Speeed. Good luck!
Go the least volume if you wanna surf it you mayy struggle a bit but overtime you will see the benifits its not always about doin it easy ! The speed rips once dialed in !
If it's your first sup I would go larger rather than smaller. You can always downsize later.
2000 thousand a booard i made that mistake ! Now have 2 i dont needand f all resale value

As discussed on another thread it's very much a buyers market, buy one second hand, demo model for sale on buy and sell $1500
At 6'5" and 106 kg with ~10 years on a SUP, the 8'8" Speeed has been the magic board for me for the past 3 years. But no need to break the bank on your first board. Get a cheap second hand board and see if you can handle it.
Get the 9'5 - i am same size and its what i have. It will float you just fine.
The 10 will be too big.

That 9'11 sold 6 months ago, they haven't taken it down

Third board , coming off a 196 wave guru, wanting to turn more

In that case, definitely the 9'5 - I went from a 10' Mana (190L) direct to the 9'5 Speeed (160L) with no problem at all

Definitely go smaller then, I've had a 9'5, and currently own a 9'2 and an 8'10, I tend to surf the 9'2 the most but love the 8'10 on really clean days. I weigh about 95-100 kg
