I been there 5 years ago, the principal wave is the main point in arugam bay the waves around doesnt seem so good, very crowded lot of kooks and many local experienced surfers, altough still easy to catch good waves if you wake up early, i will try to find some suping photos

went to the deep south and had a ball, theres over forty miles of reefs and theres plenty of spots to SUP, ,lazy right and left with a sick beach in the middle was my choice. we went to A?bay and theres a lot of sand bends and points in both direction ,it was like checking Manly, then going to Bells for a check , wrong season. to add, but it was wonderful to see more of this incredible island . only drama was boards on the roof from the airport,we had heard, and cops pulled our transport over, there not to keen on anything on the roof ,no paying fine or tiping to roll either lots of hand waving and shoving boards around ,phone calls and twenty min later we moved on ..the country is definitely split in seasons ,go the correct area and its on .we were there in mid feb and the crowds were enormous ! like the Pass meets Noosa. the food is great and priced competitively cheap, surfing tuk tuk drivers are the tip, there cool and know the best options, you hang out with them in the water is a bonus, hope you have a great trip ,you can only buy and sell there currency there

Tourism in Sri Lanka is on the rise and it's especially popular among beginners and people from countries with no waves of crappy surf.
Arugam Bay is the most famous wave, but I stayed in the South (near Galle) and didn't surf there.
There's a lot of good breaks (nothing fancy) around. I went there 7 years ago and stayed in a hotel right on the beach (Koggala). It was a good beach break with no one out; the only guy out there was an Aussie surfer.
I went exploring a few times and saw some good waves. One of them was a left pointbreak perfect for SUP (I think it was Midigama). I also surfed a good pointbreak in Mirissa.
So, don't expect anything fancy like the Maldives or Indonesia, but there are some fun breaks around.

@Carles RSPro I think August is a good season. I went there during Christmas and there wasn't any significant activity in the Indian Ocean, but in August there's a lot of storms down South that bring long period swell.

Thanks brother,

I made sure to book a stay just in the water so I can SUP surf every sunrise and then do the tourist thing with the family.

I'll be in the area of Mirissa, Midigama.

I went in November last year. Mirissa, Midigama area were the pick. Madiha reef about 2km South of Mirissa is another good spot. Heaps of breaks all the way down to Hiriketya (spelling probably wrong).

I took a mid sized surfboard and a shortboard. Mirissa Point was the pick when we were there. Get up early and beat all the Euros. Lunchtime is also alright. As it got bigger there were less kooks. Saw some guys supping on the Southern edge of Mirissa bay out wide which looked good when the swell was up.

Would've been heaps more fun on the SUP. Its not epic but combined with the great people and food its still a great trip.
