Thanks for the post! I have not surfed the Snowy since 1993 when I got a second in the old mal. That was one hell of a comp and I would be mad not to turn up for the 25th!

Hayden Swan, you still out there?

Oh. I know this is a SUP forum, but what is the go with the "log" division?

I'm going to this one. I want my title back lol.

Really good event if there are waves. I also love the parking fees. Whats it up to now $45 an hour.

You should have been there in 93. It was the swell of the decade. The Bombora was going off at 10 - 14' and most of the swell was making it into the comp zone.

Have fun!

Ok, I am going to do it! It should be a good weekend and I can't wait to see today's pros trying hard. Has the comp still got a brewery sponsor?

Given the parking fees, accomadation prices and cost of petrol I will be going by boat and walkin across town. I am not sure how I would go with a SUP under one arm and my old mal the other. It might even be time to take that lighter nine footer I am too afraid to ride. I reckon too I could grab a shopping trolley or a pram from a crub side collection and make meself.a "Stoked and Broke" hobbo trolley; donnations please! (it worked for them in the movie!) [}:)]

I am in! Now it is sit back and see if we get a strong east coast low. In both 92 & 93 it went from a couple of feet Sunday to over ten on the Monday. Fond memmories from my youth. I am just not sure how I am going to get the SUP out if its crunching six feet plus close-outs like 93. I might start saving for a new leash and get some health cover!

Other than Noosa, this would have to be one of the longest running SUP events in Australia!

Blast from the past - 2008!

Woogie was smashing it back then on his 9' Lagna. Gotta love Casso 'soul arching the old 11' Oxbow 'Tiger'!

Great weekend. Great festival feel.

Registration is now open -

cool vid, will be interesting to watch the level of sup surfing in 08 next to the surfing we see in the final this year (not taking anything away from 08) but the boards and styles have changed in the last few years.

Is there a dinosaur division? Maybe that's the "old mal"?

I think it would be great to see Sup comps have a longboard style event as well as a short board style. Maybe 10 -12' boards and judged on longboard style?

I am probably hoping that being a longboard event they might be swayed to longboard citeria? Otherwise, looking at vids of pro SUP comps the person to pull off the most cliche tail slides will be the winner?

Considering this dilema your suggestion is a good idea. It's a bit like a few decades back when they seperated longboards into an eight and nine foot division. The problem doing this.with SUPs at the Snowy is that there are already so many divisions. After the SUP I am already confused about my second and third choices.

A 12'6" and up class would be worth a look.

Yeh Sam..12'6 would be a blast, surfing the 16'+ SIC on a beach break may be interesting though, have you tried it?

SurfershaneA I think the sup judging at the Snowy will be short board style surfing. Casso?

Classic vid, AA.

Woogie was ripping. He blew us away with his new contraption from Queensland - a SUP with a pointy nose. Who'd a thunk it?

Definitely short board judging these days - even at primarily longboard comps.

I am getting used to it. Even worse I got burnt in the last longboatd comp I entered by ridding a classic board. I am sure they did not even see the sweet litttle hang five i did through the tube in the shorebreak. The previous year I got second overall to someone who did not even move off the tail.

I am still keen to turn up at the Snowy if for anything else a "look and see", I will just have to go hard on my ten footer. Carving on big boards has never been a problem for me. Still, somewhere in the future I might find the cash to buy a shortboard SUP.

Oh, it would be nice to see a few different manufacturers demo boards at the comp. I am keen.

Shane.... Sound's like you were in Steel City Malibu Club back in the nineties.
The Snowy in them days was one of the best run comps on the coast. Always went down for a look but never competed. I'll have to make the effort this year and head south, instead of north.

Yes I was. I won the club nine foot championships in 91 or so, then sporadically a bit of stuff all over the place. To be honest I always found the judging and atmosphere at the Sydney comps good compared to elsewhere. Wave wise the 93 Snowy was the most incredible comp I have ever surfed. The only other to come close was the 93 or so Steel City comp where in the eight footers I got an incredible tube which was aired on NBN. Of course, I got a second to Peter Sharpe who was the known factor fresh from an Aussie title and competing in the Worlds. The organisers also gave the Best Tube trophy to one of their mates. The story goes on......,,,,,,

Ok people, at least now you might be getting the hint why I am such a cynical bastard? Maybe these days I am getting a bit over the hill to go too hard in the water - just maybe - but at least I am hoping the 25th Snowy is going to be a great weekend.
