SUPWA will be holding their next event on Sunday the 15th of September.
This year the Bridge to Bank race will be a mixed teams from Narrows Bridge to Stirling Bridge in Fremantle. The change over will be at Point Walter. Time to get the wives paddling guys.
Keep the date free.
More detailed information to follow soon..............
It's times like these I wish I had a wife/girlfriend I could borrow someone's wife/girlfriend. ![]()
Use Stimo, he paddles like a girl
, oh thats right he's already taken bugga lol
TIP ask your wife to partner you first before you ask your Crossfit mates this works better ????????and Kent if your not using you DC flat water board can I use it
Sorry Stimo, but I reckon your only chance is if you partner up with me
, I reckon its time I had a paddle on the flat water weapon, I seem to keep missing the FW events but I will try to get to this one.
Any (other) girls out there looking for someone to paddle with let me know.
The next SUPWA event is the SUPWA Bridge to Bank Race which will be held on Sunday the 15th of September.
The race is a relay for mixed teams of two paddlers over 13km. The first leg is 8km and the second leg is 5km.
Paddlers can use the same board or a different boards. The boards will be handicapped on length using a proven system.
This means you can race, even if you do not have a race style board and still be in with a chance of a placing.
There are two courses depending on the breeze direction.
The first course will be from the Narrows Bridge in Perth directly to the change over point at Point Walter Spit (8km) then onto the Stirling Bridge in Fremantle (5km). The second course will be in the opposite direction.
On the water safety will comprise of two safety boats and there will be officials to assist with the change over station at Point Walter.
The nature of a 2 paddler/board team racing means that it is very easy with car drop offs- plenty of parking at Point Walter after dropping off the first paddler at the Narrows Bridge.
The Tradewinds Hotel have kindly donated $600 of vouchers and there are heaps of great prizes for the winners and "spot prizes".
The presentations will be held at the Tradewinds Hotel after the race. Meals are included in the entry fee and the venue is very kid friendly
Time- 0800 for registrations at Narrows Bridge Note: Time and location may change depending on course/wind direction.
Entry Fee- $20 for SUPWA members (includes meal at Tradewinds presentations). $30 for non-SUPWA members (includes day insurance and meal)
Enter- at Racesplitter (link soon available) or advise us on this thread or our Facebook page (Stand Up Paddle WA)
If you are unable to find a partner please post on this thread or the Facebook page and we may be able to match you up with another paddler.
SUPWA has many events planned this year and this is definitely our fun event. If you have never raced before and want to give it a go then this is the race for you.
Updates to follow.........

Just a few questions
Mass board start not like last year with the unlimited starting 3 min back from the 14 class
Must be a mixed team to take main prize
Can guys pair up with other guys if not enough girls to join in
Will there be board length calculations to work on this year
Remember fun event who cares were they come ( Julie better start taking this serious ) ![]()
or she's dropped
After CamsTec training today Julie will be just putting my back into order should be right by two weeks
Also the supwa crew may be trying to get a extra boat out there to help out any one you know anyone with a sea worthy boat would be great
Cool event, I've just entered with my sister who has only been paddling for 2 months. Last year there were only 6 male teams entered and 19 mixed. Of those male teams - Cam and Kev; Marcus and Prion, Jackson and John, Ian Lane and Scott Penwarn; I'm sure those guys will get their partners involved. It's the biggest mixed race in WA, if not Australia and all our other events tend to see more males enter, so this one is to get the girls involved!![]()
Let Luke know if you need a partner and he will set you up. You only tag them at the spit and that's pretty much it!
The formula is still the same - total board length in decimal. ie - 14' + 12'6 (12.5)= 26.5 (the lower the number the better the handicap)
There were all sorts of combinations last year, but Rog and Soph did well on 14' and 12'2! (26.16).
I've got some paddlers looking for race partners so if you are looking at doing the Bridge to Bank race and need a partner, let me know...
There were some great performances last year. two most memorable would be Ash and Ben (now married) taking out first place on handicap and Ash had only started paddling 4 weeks earlier. Watching Galvo with his daughter on the front of his board, paddling behind his wife supporting her down the final leg.
Great atmosphere at the Tradewinds at the presentations after, very kid friendly.
A week out and things are starting to happen for the 2013 SUPWA Bridge to Bank race.
Entries are starting to roll in along with some great prizes.
We have received some GME Sound Safes for spot prizes so you can take your phone/ mp3 and car keys on the water with you.
This is a top social event and a great race for first time competitors
If you can't find a partner let me know and I will try to match you up with someone, just don't leave it too late please.
Luke,
Are there alternative courses planned incase of strong head winds?
Yes girls paddle into that ![]()

You got me! Michele's paddling the long leg, I'm doing the down wind short leg!
'How good is the weather looking and with an out going tide it should be a nice paddle'
Present modelling (Willy Weather) wind forecast 07:00 Sunday:
'South Perth' - Southerly 10 kts (16 km h)
'Dalkeith' - Southerly 19 kts (30 km h)
'Bicton' - Southerly 13 kts (21 km h)
'East Fremantle' - Southerly 15 kts (24 km h)
Far from ideal and a 'nice paddle', in either direction... (SW or NE being ideal wind direction).
Let's hope the forecast improves from here...
I'm looking for a partner. Let me know if anyone is interested. I've got a 12'6.
Now that's just bragging

And seabreeze says sse <10knts?! So I guess we will have to wait and see.
Seabreeze is rotto modelling.
Not much use for inshore Perth waters.
Although chart does have winds @ 06:30 @ 12kts SSE...so not a lot of difference.
You gotta remember though that whitecaps appear @ 10kts (= 16 km h)...
You are right though...
They're all just 'forecasts' a long way out so time will tell.
Just trying to input max info into the discussion is all.
A few snaps from BTB 2012....looks like we're going to get a great day on Sunday once again.....can't wait ![]()
