With the poor number of entries in the Surfing Vic, Vic Titles, who is going to enter or has already entered the SUPA Vic Titles to be held at Gunnamatta on the 16th an 17th of March?
Divisions
Open Men. Open Women
Senior Men. Senior Women (age 40 to 49)
Masters Men. Masters Women (age 50 & over)
Junior Boys. Junior Girls (age under 18)
Also, who has entered the Surfing Vic, Vic Titles and in what divisions? They are telling us only 9 have entered the bop race and the marathon, and there was only enough people to run straight finals for the surf.
I'd like to enter, trying to wangle other commitments. I had entered surfing vic titles, can't believe there were so few entered (if so) . Roll on May and Phill Island, haven't surfed there in years.
Chris..I registered for the tech race and the surf.... disappointed that the Titles have been cancelled at such late notice....
will go to this event, all those organizers who go to the trouble of creating events here in Victoria, should be encouraged by the participation at all levels of the Sup community embracing the opportunity to socialize amongst fellow Suppers as well as competing and testing your skills.
The great part of this, is the idea that with a comp permit to claim a particular break for the day gives a chance to have only a couple in the water at any one time to get some waves without being hassled.
By the sounds of it here lies the problem of having 2 'governing bodies'. Field is spread thinly across both whereas if there was just one it would make it easy. Also for those whose time or money is limited they have to make a choice as to which one they enter, if there was only 1 that would make the decision a lot easier.
After going to both the SUPA and Surfing Australia National Titles last year I know who I will be supporting.
I'm not at all convinced that the issue of governing bodies has anything to do with participation levels. In a way, it's quite the opposite. We need more surf and BOP competition in Victoria, not less. I really don't think all the Vicco SUP surfers are saving up their hard earned to enter just one event every year.
no juniors at surfng vic so wheres the groms comming from ??? We will go to gunna. hope lots of groms are there.
Sean,
Join the SUP Vic Surfing facebook page.
Cant change what has happened this year unfortunately.
Lots of hard work being done in the background right now and things will change for the better in a very short period of time.
Junior development will be high on the discussion agenda for both surfing and racing.
Phill
Four SUP surfers from western vic were planning on competing in the surfing section.
We waited 'til monday, looked at the wind and swell forecast and decided conditions were going to be extremely poor for sup surfing, so we did not enter.
You can never guarantee good surf, but if it's going to be held in Torquay then why not hold it in late autumn or winter when the prevailing wind is in the west quarter (offshore) and there's more likelihood of a decent groundswell.
Call me a fair weather friend if you like, but I am a hopeless embarassment sup surfing onshore wind slop.
How many others made the same decision?
Hey RD,
Kristi did exactly the same thing but decided to enter at the last second.
Most people I have spoken to over the last 12 months have said the same thing why even run it in Feb.
Its now moved to May at Phillip Island, however they will not accept any additional entires yet another mystery.
A few people are working on a Plan B, stay tuned.
Yes I agree, a refund should be given, then a number of weeks before the event in May or whenever its planned to proceed, advertise it and call for entries again.
That way, more people will know about the event, lots more surfers involved and it will become more of a State Titles Event, which would in effect means that the Sup titles will get back to its intended format and its own event as per how it was originally, rather than being tacked on to a short board event. {mmm awkward]
I am sure then with good planning of the days activities, the technical race could be run on the same day and the Victorian Sup Titles then becomes a leading event on the Standup paddle boarders calender, a positive move forward....
I thought its a common thing if a surf event gets postponed new entries aren't accepted for the rescheduled event, wasn't that the case for the state titles two years ago?
I surf the Island a fair bit and am really looking forward to the event in May, there's plenty of options down there and you never know what we might get
,if we stick together, do the right thing in the water and Lummers, John and Matty T and Sparx turn up and tear the place apart with some performance sup surfing, we're sure to turn some heads and will be a good comp.
Chris
Have family commitments that weekend which is a total bummer. Would love to have come across and caught up with you and Lazza and that faarken trouble magnet Stewie. Gunna could be awesome..or not!
Believe it or not the Missus has booked a family weekend in Anglesea and I would be very unpopular if I pulled the pin on that one. Couple of weeks after that she's off to the States for ten weeks to do a Yoga instructors course. Given I will be working, kid wrangleing and running the Bed and Breakfast on my own, the State Titles at Phillip Island are going to be iffy.
Ah well, were not playing for sheep stations!
Cheers
Sparx
That's to bad Sparx! You'll need to take up racing and come down and join us for a bit of training. You'll be amazed how good it is for your surf supping. ![]()
Cheers
Chris
