was great to see such a huge turnout, in all categories.
pity the surf was junk, still great watching none the less.
All of the c4 boards looked like custom boards by a local shaper, Only production boards were Naish and Starboard..
A great weekend had by all I think. Well done to the other SUPCentral guys and girls for the venue and general organisation.
Daffy as Contest Director and Phil Baggs as head judge were ideal choices. Between them they had the whole thing running sweetly.
Some very hard heats and semis (well, it is the State Titles) and everyone was going off in the finals in some average conditions. They all made it look good.
Yep fantastic weekend. Despite my very ordinary results (self inflicted of course) me and my son Robbie had a ball. Met some nice people, had heaps of surfs and generally enjoyed the good vibe that permeated the event.
I think this type of event will have very positive effect on the growth of SUP surfing competition as it allows the inclusion of more people. Cost wise Robbie and myself were able to enter 2 events each, for a total of $110. There is no way my 11 year old would normally enter an event such as this and he had a blast. Now all he talks about is going to the SUPA Nationals in March and wants to surf again today.
How would you compare this to the Surfing NSW event? Completely different and really both very valid events in their own right. What do others think?
Well done to SUP Central club for putting it on and also to the SUPA crew for all their hard work getting it organised.
Agree Wholeheartedly Goatman!
The event was an absolute blast and ran like a smoothly oiled machine. The announcers did a fantastic job of keeping everyone aware of what was going on and who needed to be where and it was a really pleasant change to have groovy old farts music playing in the background instead of commentators!
Great bunch of people in the display area, in the organisers tent, on the Barbie and all-round just a great fun weekend!
Can't wait for the SUPA NSW state races in Feb!
I agree good weekend despite the waves.
The difference between the two events I feel was more display's from industry sponsors. It was good to wander around and checkout all the boards on display.
As well as the judging being more conscious to use of paddle while surfing.
P.s goatman. Sorry you had to be taken out by running into me.
Congratulations to all the SUPpers, organisers, judges and sponsors for an exciting, fun and challenging contest. Everyone seemed to have a smile on their faces over the two days, and we were blessed with some great weather to boot. Thank you to SUP Central for a great event and well done to all the competitors who showed great skill and prowess in the little fun waves. This sport continues to grow and develop with some fresh new faces, new board and paddle designs, as well as an advancement in judging criteria. Well done to all! You're all WINNERS!!
