Hi everyone, I'm a SUP newbie. only done flat water (in hawaii where i have family and travel every year), and looking to get into an early morning SUP habit back in Melbourne with my new iSUP. I live in Hawthorn . Am I dreaming to go SUPing there as a newbie on an iSUP? I'm concerned mostly about the currents but also about unfriendly high school rowing teams (!)

IF the river is an ok place for a beginner - where is a good place to enter the water?

Or am i best off driving that bit further down to Elwood / elsewhere on the bay?

Advice from the hive mind very much appreciated!

A good place to launch from is the rowing sheds opposite Federation Square.. Try not to fall in and keep to the right side of the river which ever direction you paddle. Don't worry about the currents or the other rowers.. Just try and keep out of their way.

If your in Hawthorn launch near Hawthorn Rowing club and head away from the city, those Rowers will not get out of your way and have quite an attitude. I know this because my step daughter is a rower and I hear it direct!
