I may have some time this Monday (6th of May) to SUP around Queenstown.
Anyone have experience or recommendations? I may be able to take my inflatable with me or hire something local. I know how beautiful it is in the area, but the weather could be sketchy at this time of year...
Go to pacificpaddleco.co.nz and message the owner sam loader, he's based in the South Island and can give you some pointers
Queenstown, the lake is cold water.
Been there windsurfing in the past during summer and wore 4/3 steamer.Sup you probably won't wear wetsuit (sweat suit) a pair of botties could be recommended. Any time of year you can get southerly change which can bring snow so bring thermals.
With the shape of the lake one arm can be glassy and another windy.
Its expensive place but amazing when you're on the water with the hills around
enjoy ![]()
Thanks for the information!
Unfortunately, work has taken over and there is almost no chance of going SUPing... (I will be there for a conference.)
Yes I've been to work conference in Queenstown, fun but meetings and dinner and drinks doesn't leave a lot of spare time.
Take your inflatable just in case. And possibly down one of the rapids ![]()
Haha who is the green tea loser? Queenstown a dump my ass. Impeccable South Island at its finest. Grow some culture and you'd get it
Had a few days there in Sept 2016.
Hired a board from the fella on the lake. My notes say "nice scenery cold water" . Not sure of the board label but it was 11 x 33, a big Mal shape. Life jacket was a requirement.

Mess of tracks at the end of the point are from chasing small boat wakes over a sandbar.
