Will it be cancelled again 1ft and 35kn winds from the north. Lets wait for a good day!!! Lots of crew going paddling in the yarra i think
The local board club have a policy whereby a comps never called off until the contest director has eyes on the surf, at the venue and on the day. Saves a lot of embarrassment!
That being said, we don't have a lot of competitors travelling from Melbourne or the East Coast to attend our comps.
Look on the bright side. It's seems more likely that there will be something on offer than not and the smaller it gets the closer to the beach it breaks. Closer to the beach equals closer to the cliff and more shelter from the wind.
Cheers

And the offshore breeze will make the BBQ snags smell real good while you're competing. ![]()

It would be great to make the call on the day but considering we do have competitors having to travel a significant distance to the comp, the contest director will have to make the call later in the week (Thursday evening or Friday)....given the forecast, the later a decision can be made the better.
So basically the comp is on until you hear otherwise from the contest director.![]()

Northerly swell will be interesting!!
Windguru is crap
BOM wind map is saying 20kn N
It's a hoax. No point ..the contest tent will win anyway.. 150ft air.![]()
Forget it guys.. What's the rush.. Lets surf good waves..
Due to unfavourable conditions forecast for this Sunday (no swell and honking offshore wind) the Winter Classic will have to be postponed yet again.
Stay tuned for new comp date. We are determined to run this comp in quality contestable conditions.![]()
Good call Dean with the cancellation, the silver lining for a couple of us is, Sunday's down winder with the predicted howling northerly.... Its Look'n great![]()
No excuses for not joining us on our downwinder then.. ![]()
DJ
Ricketts Point to Mornington could be a goer.....25km with the 25-30kn breeze straight behind you![]()
You'd be about 7km offshore going past Carrum and the bay swell has had a bit more of a fetch to get lined up.
Could be all time. Yeeeewwwwww!!
Woohoo the Winter Classic is ON this Sunday, 13 th at Signposts 7 am ish BE THERE
Jeez guys
Truly appreciate all your efforts but please tell me there is a plan B
Three meter swell moderate wind from the west and Signies is going to be rubbish....bloody big and nasty rubbish.
If the plan is to attract paddlers of all abilities there needs to be a venue other than 13th on the table. FFS the predominant wind at this time of the year is from the west....if we are waiting around for 13th it could well end up as the Spring Classic.
Picnic Sheds, just around the corner, would be offshore and perfectly contestable on the predominant wind, tide and swell. On top of that plenty of options for the average Jo. Faaark, SOUL Long boarders seem to have a comp there every second weekend....why cant we?
Again, truly appreciate all of your efforts and again I hope I'm wrong re wind and swell. Happy to eat humble pie if its offshore and contestable at 13th...just cant see it happening.
Cheers

Sounds like the Sunday that was cancelled 2 weeks ago. Fishos was 2 ft and perfect. The Carpark a little further around had a peak breaking left and right, strong sweep however. Even Point Danger was very doable at around 4-5 ft and bugger all people about on the Sunday. It's been held at Cosy/Danger before. Get Permits for both 13th and Front Beach then your covered. Call it on the morning at 7.15![]()
coming down regardless, hey leroy had a good surf 2 weeks ago at those exact locations, thought the peaks (stink pipe) were more fun than fishos, Danger was fun on saturday around 4' for about an hour or two it was just John Takle 5 prones and me. Here's hoping this w/end is the same.
cheers you bunch of hopelessly addicted sup creatures
Hi Sparks,
We will make a call later in the week, I am not convinced by a long shot at this point it will be uncontestable.
It wont be long before we have access to other locations suitable for a westerly.
Phill.
Swellnet are forecasting 4-5' with W-NW wind.
Hopefully wind ends up more NW than W
Sounds pretty bloody good to me!!![]()

Yeeeeeeeha
Sorry to come across like a bitter and twisted weather wanker. What can I say...I,m turning into my Dad
Best thing we can all do is get 100% behind Sup Vic and their efforts to promote this awesome sport.
Two foot or ten, I,m in. Best part about these events is catching up with crew you don't see every other day, talking crap and watching some red hot surfing and having a splash...cant wait.
In future I will keep my premature brain farts to myself...hard enough fighting city hall without having to fight one another!!
Cheers

good work Sparxy, we are all in the sup underground together...
Great effort Phil...with the volumes of meetings and phone calls necessary to get all the permits in place for the weekend....
who was that bloke that said?
"life wasn't meant to be easy"
