Heading to Mauritius, Le Morne, in August.

Apart from relaxing and family time, I'd love to score as many SUP surfing sessions as possible. Question is, do I bring by board? Or the local ION Club has good material?.

Any experience over there would help.

I would be wary of the pseudo-locals(*) that are assholes of galactic dimensions. They even hassled a friend that was teaching his small kid to surf at a beginner beach, so much that the kid was crying.

(*)My father was Mauritian, so seeing these obviously occidental **heads calling themselves "locals" would be comical if their actions were not so tragic.

It's been a few years since I last visited Mauritius, so I hope my info is still accurate.

The best SUP surfing can be done, obviously depending on your level of riding, at One Eye. What I recall is that rental stations (kite-surf, windsurf, SUP) will not let you take their gear up to that particular break. I believe they will let you ride at Manawa (the break more towards the left) but if you really serious about riding the absolute best, you need to go to One Eye.

With regards to the gear itself, my experience is that SUP rental gear is mostly suited towards average/beginner usage, not necessarily the type of boards you use to rip up waves.

In short, my advice, BYOB.

On the localism, it sucks big time. I have been to Mauritius probably 8 times and have had my share of fun with mostly imported locals. When I was there I was windsurfing at One Eye or surfing at Tamarin Reef. At both locations I have had to let mostly South African soak-pielen know I was not impressed. Riding a SUP in these spots might well further aggrevate them.
