Hi All,

Quite new to this sport and absolutely loving it!

Looking to develop a group of people for SUP surfing around collaroy / long reef in Sydney on the weekend or afternoon after work.

If you always venture out by yourself and would like to surf in a group pop me a message.

Cheers
Damo.

I find its often better by yourself. Groups of sups can be quite unpopular.
was surfing a reef not long ago. 1x sup which was me and about 6 sbs, not problem.
Then 13 sups suddenly paddled out. What chance did the sbs have after that. None.
I paddled of down the beach, and heard about it later.
More sups less waves

Agreed.... no groups.

I prefer to be the only SUP in the line-up.... earn your own stripes.... without group sanctuary.

or.... find a SUP dominate peak and paddle out.... SUP'rs are generally very friendly and inclusive.

I start to feel uncomfortable if there are over 2 SUP in the line up . Even with 2 I make sure the sbs are getting there share , within the pecking order . Manners are most important and IMO can be lost to any group of mates that paddle out as a group .

You won't feel lonely on a SUP there. You'll find lots of SUPs at both beaches. Sometimes too many!!

Well said guys, welcome to SUPing Shreddm, etiquette is very important in the line up dude, we have the advantage therefore be very mindful of others surfers. I prefer to be by myself in general very often surfing less favourable waves, let a set wave go through for others mate, very often you get a smile or even an apology if the surfer doesn't make the wave,

stay stoked

Pop by the shop and we can show you some of the hidden gems away from crowds very close to where you're talking about.
Nothing but other SUPs to worry about.

mmhhnn....seems from above thread replies we all don't want more than 2 sups in the lineup, so long as 1 of the 2 sups allowed happens to be "me"....schreddm just wants the camaradarie of paddling with some like minded souls, give him a break. ..too much competitive egotistical stuff going on, lads.

seriously you all sound like SUPs shouldn't be in the water and if you can't paddle out with your mates to a line up and have fun well maybe you should consider lawn bowls
all shredam was asking was paddling partners so he can paddle with like minded people to enjoy his chosen sport.

It all depends mate, the short boarders treat you a whole lot differently if you can actually surf your board and show them a little respect, doesn't matter how many SUP's are in the lineup as long as everyone shares and is considerate, I see it alot at one of my local breaks, it's easy to paddle out there so you get all of the learners that to some extent have probably never surfed before(some of them) out there on there 10-12 foot tankers that have no idea and that is when they cause issues,

Vacant Lot, Collaroy beach. usually nice uncrowded spot with other Sup's scattered around. Some of the best straight handers around
As Windsurfnsnow said, ask. there are heaps of Sup spots in that area that are heaps of fun. CYA out there.

Yeah thanks guys - appreciate the comments. It was focused just around paddling buddies to enjoy the sport. I hear some of the breaks around whiterock and Makaha are quite good (although a little rocky & sharky). I have also seen some monster sets come through - just pick the best day I guess. Thanks Wind Surf Snow - I need to come and grab a new leggie tomorrow so Ill come and ask thoughts around good spots for intermediates.

Cheers!

Thanks Gareth,

I assume whiterock or Makaha? Yeah heading out Sat morning about 7am might head out to Makaha if forecast is ok (never tried before) if there is other people keen that would be great. I have been surfing collaroy point alot but want to try something different, I am far from a pro but confident enough now to try something different.
