Hi All, Anyone got any advice/experience on taking a SUP to Rottnest. Getting around on the bus etc. (sup is 7.8ft).
Advice on surf breaks where sups are generally accepted. Normally SUP Lancelin, M.River
Thanks,
Boat operators charge $20 but that doesn't get the board off the jetty - the shuttle bus has a trailer you can put your board on but take your own tie downs.
There are plenty of great breaks around the island, some can be pretty challenging. Two that are fun on a sup are Piss Heads at Mary Cove and Transits in Thompson Bay.
Juddy does the Bay Seeker Bus accommodate sups?
Enjoy yourself over there Dungy it's a great spot.
+1 on Transits.
Bit of a paddle out but totally worth it.
Bring shoulder straps or some way of transporting the board, it's one thing to get it to the jetty, it's another thing to get it to where you're going. We stayed at a hut overlooking Thompsons so it was just a bit of a walk from the jetty up the hill.
I converted my kid carrier to a kite surf carrier then widened one of the board carrying channel to take a SUP
I use it all the time at Rotto
Packs flat for transport to the island
Love your handy work Slack! Was talking to a fellow supper while waiting for our boards to be off loaded, I was struck with envy when he started assembling a rather fancy board caddy. He rode off with gear whilst I limped off with surfboard, sup and paddle. I had to come back for rods and bike.
I did catch up with him a couple of days and his fins had a new foil, the wind had caught hit big Sb Drive and flipped the trailer whilst riding down a hill!
Im thinking about strapping an axle arrangement to the tail of my big board to tow it, using the board as the spine.
That's an awesome idea. I've got a simular set up I use at Lancelin. Might be worth dusting it off for the trip. Thanks Gents
