To date I have transported my board and paddle within SUV.
I have recently invested in roof racks and am all good in relation to board . However is it ok securely put paddle on racks as well and if so what is best approach ? I was considering putting in back however this may press on board causing damages especially when tightened down with ties. Also carbon conducts heat so that could be another issue.

I put the paddle next to the board and staples both at once. Wrap end of strap around paddle for extra security. Best if paddle is in a bag.
Ah see that's where lockrack comes in handy, no tie downs or anything else crushing down on the board. You can put anything you like inside your board bag including paddle and or prone surfboard, which I do if space is an issue. Otherwise I just put the paddle inside car
I agree with micksmith.
I'm a loner most of the time and straps doesn't make sense unless you carry more than 2 race boards.

Got a Lockrack as well on advice from this forum and its the tits! Awesome product and so quick and easy to transport my board now.
I keep the paddle inside the car as there's no extra space in the board bag - it was cutsom made to fit the board.
I brought a paddle bag as well ...I wasn't a fan of putting it in the board bag ,due to the rocker on the board .

My board bag is pretty snug fit as well but I have the blade towards nose of board pushed up forward so it at same rocker level, put a wetsuit or towel on blade area before pushing it in. I only do this when space inside is at a premium

Tardy do you put put the bagged paddle on racks as per Hilly's approach ?
I bought a Rhino Rack Paddle Holder (I think it's technically called a multi purpose holder) a while back and it is awesome. I only drive about four minutes to the beach/river, so I don't tend to put my paddle in a cover. The paddle holder is simply a square sort of shape with a strap over it, pull the straps down over the paddle on each holder and it's done. Quick, easy, secure and keeps my paddle out of my car. The Paddle holder would hold down a paddle in a bag as well.

I've looked into using the bag before but it is tight and I just crinched at the thought of something going wrong, so just keep it in the car for now - perhaps I am just too sensitive about it. :) Fortunately I have quite a bit of space and it being a vario makes for easy storage inside.
