It seems like the swell has picked up has peaked at my exhaustion... Beautiful swell today. Waist to chest height. sets were closing out but there were a couple of nice runs long enough to get half a dozen turns in
The boards are just working perfectly. The ghost 8'10 grabs a wave really really nicely you know you're on it and the bottom turn is smooth and then it just turns itself around on the top lip. It turns awesome, it really shocked me.(made me look way better than I am) Yeah it's really lovely. We are so happy but after a dozen waves I was absolutely knackered so I had to go onto the beach and have a rest and then we just cruised back. We're about 500 m down the beach and we just cruise back paddle back and just kept catching waves as they came along. Perfect perfect day.. and that's just the morning. I've got a sunset surf I have to survive as well.
Sunova factory tour this morning
Well, it just keeps getting better. Today we did a factory tour of Sunova boards. Dylan Berger, the company COO, who is the operations manager took us around to show us how SUPs and foils are constructed, and to be honest, I had no idea of the complexity to make one of these amazing Boards.
Just to say there are seven stop points of quality assurance for every board that goes through its process just shows you how meticulous the boards are made, and then there's a final QA before packing. Their technology although not secret but not really told is amazing but what really stands out is all the LOVE that this family and community puts into each board. It is unbelievable how proud all the people are working there and producing world-class boards. They are such a beautiful looking Board at every turn.
It's really a shame to put a deckmat on top. Something that I'll have to look Into. There's no real Batch production making, it is really individual boards made one after another. Boards go through the factory at a certain speed some quicker than others, the foil boards obviously smaller and cure quicker so they jump SUPs and can be completed faster where the longer boards can take around 30 hours to produce. It really has to be seen to to be believed.
It's such a smooth process. Every person has their skill set and they are put to where they are best suited. Then there's an operational program that integrates everything to make it as smooth as possible. Just walking around looking at the quality of these boards is an experience.
Sorry for some reason the photo are flipped!!
