7 am dragging my sorry arse out of bed trying to get motivated to go one more time.
I broke my toe on a step (no not pissed) and all the skin taken off the top of my toes and my knees (from so much surfing) , and I think every muscle in my body is aching!!!
So we walked up the beach about a Km as Dylan told us about the Point break and when it would be best, then we had an about 300 meter paddle out to the point. There were about six or seven people out there on Longboards. A pretty consistent wave maybe small Day Yallingup but the two SUPs caught everything we went for!! You just jump on the front and they just cruise on a non-breaking wave amazing for an 10'8 Board and a 83 kg person . It went high tide so most of the others left (they've been there for the incoming tide) and so there's just four of us there for about 20 minutes and then just two of us there for the last 10 to 15 minutes and we just got a couple more each before we 900 meter paddle back to the cafe.
Amazing, I can imagine that break being like yallingup type wave, big but crumbly and again the boards did not disappoint. Easy to catch waves beautifully, turns really really well, lovely boards.
The resort was right on the beach break and was the perfect spot for sunset drinks.
I'm sure you'll be glad that this is the last report coming back from the Sunova road trip
So we got up at six, walked up the beach a kilometre and then paddled out the 300 m to the break. We're the only two out there but it wasn't really working but the tide was coming in so we got a couple of non-breaking ways -which is just amazing that you can just do that!! So just a little bit of a longboard nose riding surf.
Then we just waited and it really didn't get any better so then we did a K and a half paddle back to the main break and it was really nice. It wasn't closing out like before but it was still quite big and we just had a play in amongst the others, even when there's lots of people here they're still plenty of breaks along the beach so you never really competing with anyone.
This is not a renown surf break like the Maldives, etc. but fun all the same.
We drop the boards back.
Sunova made the difference, trying to surf with a rental Board is normally an absolute pain in the arse so to have top of the range SUPs to be able to try out is unbelievable.
Thank you Dylan and the Sunova Crew, so until this time next year..

That was a great set of reports mate. I have been to Khao Lak a couple of times and hired longboards and Sups at Memories beach and surged at the beach break there. I have also had a tour of the Sunova factory which was as you described, a very interesting experience. What time of the year did you go there and where did you actually surf. Is Dylan organising some kind of surf tour there?. It's a great spot there and although I visit Thailand often I seldom go to Khao lak but I think that will change if I can get some good surf days in. Cheers.
Sounds wonderful. Feeling the urge for a new board. Picking it up sounds a lot better than waiting for a container.
Any difficulties in bringing the boards back ? Sunova pack or a new board bags ?
Thanks

Apsara Beachfront Resort
We were there Mid October and there was surf every morning and afternoon.
Khao Lak is a lovely area and Dylan is making available some demo boards to try. Have the Ghost and the Ghost Up to demo was an absolute treat compared to board I have hired in the past
one day the point break was working which was a bonus ( longboard break )
best surf April may and October.

We didn't buy them there, we will place an order in Perth.
unfortunately flying with a SUP proved too difficult to risk it and we could get a definitive answer from any airline
it would be worth looking into though!

I have played in the surf there in July/August but only at the Beach break opposite Memories bar. I have two Sunova Sups purchased via a shop in Melbourne, so maybe I should contact Dylan in regards to hiring one of the Ghosts if they are available. It's a pretty chilled place in the off season, safe to ride scooters up and down the highway and has a few bars scattered about.
If I stay at Apsara Beachfront resort who do I hire a surf SUP from ? Is it walking distance from resort ? ? And will they allow me to
keep the board for say 2 weeks ? Oris it easy to go out each day before my surf and hire a board ?
do they have any semi ok sup surfing boards ?
thanks
Thanks for the great info and posts. Sounds like a fun trip.
What size ghost have you decided on ? Is the 9'3 your best liked size ? What is your weight ?

Hi London
Apsara is right next to Memories Bar, which has a surf shop directly behind it.
I am sure that Sunova can leave a board with those folks for you and can probably leave it there every night, rather than bringing it back to your room.
There is surf at Memories, probably the most popular break in the area... but certainly not the best, just an average beach break with less than perfect shape.
The Ghost is the perfect board for any break in the area... not sure how many sizes are available for hire, but Sunova can tell you if you contact them.
Memories is an amazing place for an after surf cocktail and cheap good eats.... plus the best sunset you will ever see!!
The Sunova Factory is about 2 miles inland from Apsara
Have a blast!!!
