Smiles All Round For Inaugural Event
Last night saw the running of the very first Sydney Paddle Surfing Club annual presentation night. Representing the majority of the competitors for the 2009-2010 season, over 50 SPSC members descended upon the Pittwater RSL Club to celebrate a great year of competitive SUP surfing and racing.
With heaps of free food, drinks flowing fast, video and photo presentations of the club comps playing, lots of interesting conversation and the anticipation of potentially winning a great prize - everybody soon had sore cheeks from so much smiling.
The presentation was preceded by the annual general meeting where a whole new board was voted in to help run the club for the following season. The successful nominees for the 2010-2011 season are:
Club President/Secretary - Andrew "Casso" Cassidy
Vice President - Stuart "Suplove" Murray
Contest Director - John "JB" Messenger
Head Judges - Dan and Simon Cleary
Catering Manager - Scotty Parsons (Chef at Jonah's restaurant!)
Equipment Steward - John "JB" Messenger
Overall, a fantastic night had by all.

Half Man, Half Goat Takes Top Honours
With a massive prize pool on offer, generously donated by the SPSC sponsors, it was John "Goatman" Christensen who walked away with the top prize - a brand new 9'0" Coreban Fusion SUP.
Other lucky members got to choose a paddle, deck grip, board bag, paddle cover, paddle shirt, paddle gloves, t-shirt or hat. Every competitor went home with a prize and the top three from each of the four divisions also received a really cool trophy.
A huge thank you to the generousity of the key players in the SUP industry for getting behind the club: Wind Surf n Snow, Suplove, C4 Waterman, Coreban, East Coast SUP, Balmoral Boards, Naish, QuickBlade Paddles, Westman Paddles, OXBOW, BiCSURF, Kialoa, Honolua Surf Co, XCEL, Australian Paddle Surfer Magazine and Mrs Palmers.
Saint Aidan Donates to Next Generation
Super nice guy, Adian Lewis who works for Naish was randomly drawn to win the C4 9'3" Sub Vector with grip, carbon paddle and legrope in the members raffle at the SPSC presentation night. Having access to any Naish board in the range at any time and being the true saint that he is, Adian kindly donated the complete prize to the next generation of Sydney SUPers and key club helpers, Madison and Lachlan Cassidy. The young up-and-comers were ecstatic with the prize and blown away with the generosity shown by Aidan - and so was their Dad!
Great night, thanks to Casso and team for once again putting on a great event for the club. Dogman would have been stoked if he saw the stack of pies on the food tray's (I know I was).
A fantastic end to an awesome season, I'm looking forward to the 2010/11 season to kick off on the 8th August at Long reef.
BTW, did anyone find my paddle?
I don't exactly remember leaving the club last night
, but I know it didn't make it home with me.....![]()
I'll try and put up the season vid I made soon.
JB
wow was truely an epic night, and oh my god i have never seen so my prizes. My mouth started watering when i walked in the doors and saw about 7 new glossy paddles ranging from sick full carbon Quickblade and Naish to wooden master peices from Suplove and jason from vicco. Then of course the brand new Coreban and C4 Boards followed by boardbags, deckgrip, hats, tshirts, wallets and many more things as you can see from the shots above prizes a plenty!
Anyway i was stoked to walk away with a wooded Suplove paddle that looks so good i dont no whether to hang it on my wall or get it wet?
Also as the night was super great vibes and the beers were flowing and im sure everyone will be back next year with bells on and the club will continue its great repuration and grow even bigger yeah tell ya mates.
Dan
Thanks to Casso again, who managed to drop by the RSL and retrieve my prize for me.
Anyone else who sees some young punks hanging round Mona Vale with a SPSC trucker cap and block of Palmers wax, tell em I want it back. Old farts like me do not belong at the Mona Vale Pub after dark, especially not on the dance floor.![]()
JB
Just to follow up what the others have said, firstly a big thank you to Casso, Alison, Maddison and Lachlan Cassidy for all the work they did over the last 12 months running the club comps. Bear in mind these guys are not involved in the SUP industry and do it just for the love of the sport. Without people like Casso there would be no club and all the awesome fun associated with it.
Thanks also to the sponsors that Casso listed in the previous post. If you want to see who is supporting the sport, check out the list. I am looking forward to getting the Coreban out in some fun waves to try a bit of old school nose riding, etc, looks like a wicked board. My kids all have a SUP now as well![]()
I'll do a review at some stage.
And good on you Aidan, what a legend giving away the beautiful new C4 Sup he won in the raffle - couldn't have gone to more deserving recipiants.
Hanging out for the next comp in 2 weeks![]()
Nice one Aidan !
SPSC - Well done to everyone involved you set a high standard for every other state.
