Thanks JB for all of your work putting this together and the pre registration really did make the event run smoothly. All over by 11am with run sheets and heat draws already for an 8am start. It really helped this additional event move forward.

A shame you missed it AA as you had pushed for this originally and you missed something I'm sure you would have liked to have seen.

Great vids Chappo and JB. The "style award" went to a well deserved Mark Rennie who trimmed like a true long boarder. Very impressive to watch.

I think I'll have to be back for the next one.

Thanks for the kind words NNSUP, I was so stoked it all went along really well. The key target for the event was fun, I really didn't want it to go down too serious, and I think everyone was smiling at the end, and the other main target was to see how well the event would some what run it's self, which it did. So thank you everyone who came s you guys ran the event and it was a cracker. Here is the Leaderboard after the first event which will accumulate over the 3 rounds. Well done to Marty, Toby and Tess heading the series so far. Can't wait for the next one, I have a funny feeling there is going to be some longboard training going on between now and then.

Ride safe,

JB

Despite winning the first SPSC open comp on a Laird Hybrid on a two wave count compared to others nearly getting the full ten, I am starting to feel the whole Laird thing is loosing pace. For me, the Hybrid won't go vertical enough for open comps and is not eligible for the over 10. Unfortunately, it is also showing the typical heal dints, which Marty's is already suffering, and one patch of concerning delamination. My old Surftech Laird has held up a lot better despite even more brutal punishment and sun exposure. A real pity as I have enjoyed the shape.

Forced to stick with standard epoxy, I might just play with the fins in my 11' Laguna Bay prone logger. Another good option would be just to refine a CAD template and get a carbon custom knocked out in China? Most SUPs inluding the new Lairds are made there anyway? On this line, you now have local competition like Liquid Blue offering complete carbon packages for less than the retail price of a Laird. All they probably need is a bit of help refining their shapes from recreational to competitive standards.

Yes, the judges were too busy watching their natural footed mates hoping to judge them up for a free schooner. Tom didn't have a freaking chance!

I have a feeling that TC probably took about a 40 point handicap, in the interest of keeping it a fun event.

Tom, the busy family man he is only did the first round before he needed to go. He surfed exceptionally well as one expects from such a class act on his new awesome Long grain model board. His boards have some serious glide and just look awesome. They will be available soon in Aus
He scored a perfect 30/30 for the first round accordingly.

I am assuming your joking right. Tom was cool enough to come down for 1 round as he had family commitments. I am sure he is not fussed at about his placement either way, as the whole day was about just having fun.

Highlight of the comp for me was to turn up and watch Tom. Pretty much the main reason I bothered putting so much effort into getting there. Otherwise I would look like a real hypocrite considering how I have been telling so many people who would usually dish on SUPs how well the respected ex-world champion rips on a bigger board. Sure one day you guys will get the gist?

Otherwise, I probably would not have left my partner with her medical problems to go to the bloody comp myself. Nearly had to turn the boat around when she was urgently addmited to hospital just after I left, but luckily things stabilized and have improved.

Hey, you guys said it was about having fun? Well I am freaking having fun!!!!!!!

I am unsure of what "gist" we are not quite getting, and I am unsure how to interpret your tone mate. We really appreciate everyone who travels distance to the comps. It's cool to see. Like the crew from Ulladulla, Tobe's and few other guys.

All the guys who run the comps do it out of there own time. Most have kids, wifes etc, and it's not just the effort on the day, there is alot that goes on behind the scenes to make sure everyone has a great and safe time. I have alot of respect for them. My aim is that everyone feels included and has a great time.

Most importantly I am stoked to hear that your partners health improved and stabilized on the weekend.

For it to truly rate as a 'fun' event the old Merimbula Classic rules should apply - No whingers!

Great public face, totally unlike the personal email. There was no doubt about the tone there! Pretty well deteriorated even further since you jumped on my back at the first sight of a bad joke?

Yes, I totally have an attitude and at my age I don't real care either. So I am out of the band? Could you please refund my club membership?

I note, many health professionals would confer that after having seen nearly it all over the years, I am hovering on the secondary diagnosis of a serious antisocial disorder. For better or for worse, if you can't take the resulting black humour, I advise you go whinge between yourselves and leave me alone.

Oh, a quick thanks to all those in the club who were more than friendly and welcoming! All the best!

Now that all is well at home, gone sailing,

S.

I only sent you a private message as I wanted to communicate with you directly, and not via a public forum. A little more appropriate.

I am really sorry sincerely to hear about your personal challenges and all of my comms was just attempting to you get to bottom of the negativity around the last comp, and to remind you that we (the crew running the comps) are just punters who have full time jobs, families etc and are just trying to do all of this in our very sparse spare time. So suffice to say, it is best effort on the day from the crew and volunteers. They do an amazing job.

If anyone is interested in my private email, I am happy to post it as it was referenced above. Only for the purpose of transparency. Although, at the end of the day it sucks that you feel like you do about the club and your result in the last comp. There is not much more I can say. Although you are more than welcome at any our future events. Regards, Pete
