Guys and Girls,

Date 16-11-2014 Time 07:00 - 11:00
Location - Palm beach, Sydney

It is finally here, our first 10+ contest at stunning palm beach. Starting at 7.15am, with first heat scheduled to hit the water at 8am.

This contest is unique in a few key ways for SPSC. First, it will be pre-registration entry only. If you are not a member of SPSC, you can register as a one off, or if you are already a member you will register by RSVPing to the event on tidy club. www.spsc.tidyclub.com Pre-registration only. Ending Friday 14th at 5pm. Through the SPSC online booking system.

There is no heat progression, every surfer will ride twice earning points for a final positioning at the end of the 3 events. All competitors are expected to remain at the event site for the entire duration of the heats as judging is pre-allocated so everyone gets a turn to judge a heat. Heats will be 15 minutes long and run back to back, which means 3 hours total run time.

All competitors are expected to wear leg ropes and allocated colored rash vests. Boards must be over 10' in length.

Rides will be judged on Style, Length of ride, Positioning, Wave selection, difficulty of ride/maneuvers and all round performance. Points will be allocated in reflection to the intensity and difficulty of the moves performed.

All competitors are expected to be at the marshaling tent around 7am, for a potential 7:20am Riders briefing and 7:30am potential start. Given smooth running of heats this will have things wrapped up by 10:30am.

All general surfing rules, common sense and good sportsperson ship are expected at all times. For competitors judging for the first time, there will be a quick 5 minute session at 7:25am after the 7:20am Riders briefing to help with your concerns and queries.

Fun is mandatory!! The will be healthy food provided on the day, included in entry/membership fee. There will be a lucky door prize at each event. To be eligible for the prize you must be a member of SPSC and you must be present at the end of the days competition.

Entry Fees
- Full SPSC members - Buy ticket at no fee by clicking https://spsc.tidyclub.com/public/events/1330-spsc-14-15-inaugural-10-contest . This is how you RSVP
- $25 one-off fees per competition for non-members. Purchase a one event membership here - https://spsc.tidyclub.com/public/events/1330-spsc-14-15-inaugural-10-contest

Thanks,
Pete

The format looks fun Pete. Is there any chance of a mobile event if conditions not looking promising up there? From what I hear banks pretty straight on low which I think will fall around 10:15am. Sure JB can keep us posted on potential banks.

It is a bit far out to make the call yet, and will be discuss with JB and Andy who are running the day. Although at this stage unless it is exceptionally bad we will be sticking with Palmy..

Surfed south and North recently and the banks are really good. This morning I was out at far north car park and had one of the best surf's I've had in a long time. Excellent lefts and rights all the way to the beach. Looking really forward to it.

See you all there.

Love your glass well more than half full attitude JB.
Some fun tiny ones around this morning for big boards, just wondering how those banks may handle low tide with a bit of swell? Would be a real shame if straight handers greeted us.

Will the club still be running a prone shortboard tag team round like they were talking about at the last SUP surfing comp?

Can't wait to mix it up with the over 10 SUP!!!!!!!!

The banks all along Palm looked really good a bit over a month back, both with a bit of swell and small. Sounds like it's holding up if not getting beter?

Hey Markyb, no this Sunday is the 10+ only event, next month will have the shortboard round.

I think the swell is going to be spot on, and the bank off the nth car park is perfect connecting all the way to the beach.

Make sure you all pre-register by 5pm Friday, as there will be no registrations on the day. all heat run sheets will be made up on Saturday in preparation. Head to accounts.tidyhq.com/users/sign_in and log in go to events and get your name down.

See you all there,

Pre-Registrations end TODAY at 5pm, so get onto the link below and get registered. Already plenty registered, it is looking like being an awesome day. I've crossed checked a lot of weather models (not that I don't trust you Lozz) and it looks like we'll have offshore winds moving from NW through to SW and the current south swell still in place. The banks at North Palm Beach are good with deep gullies and plenty of sand out far which should lead to nice long stylish rides. Please be up at the beach by 7:15am to have your name ticked off. We'll have a riders briefing at 7:20am, and a quick 5 minute judging clinic at 7:25am for anyone who wishes to get a bit of insight as to some methods to use for accurate judging (obviously surf judging is subjective and personal so this is only a guide).

A few key things to know for the day.
- There is 2 rounds with heats pre-allocated. There is no progression, therefore no downtime. heats will be run back to back with no break.
- Scores will go into a leaderboard and accumulate over the 3 events.
- Judging is also pre-allocated. Everyone will judge 1 heat on the day. This makes it fair for everyone to enjoy the day.
- Leg ropes must be worn. A 10'+ board moving sideways in the white water can hurt, we want to minimize risk.
- The SPSC coloured rash vests assigned must be worn or you will not be scored.
- Heat times will be 15minutes. 5 minutes shorter than normal SPSC as these boards will catch a lot of waves.
- Good sportpersonship is expected at all times.
- Most importantly, fun is mandatory.

A big thanks to SPSC for supporting this division this year in their busy calendar, and Wind Surf n Snow for co-sponsoring the event with Naish Australia.

AA, since you where the main push for the 10'+ division from you about 2 years ago, it's a bummer you won't make it. Ensure you lock in the next one January 18th and 8th March.

We'll be sure to put on a good show for you and get some vid and pics so you can re-live it.

yes I think that would be totally crap if you couldn't enter last minute as you have been able to in all the last 5 or so years that SPSC has been running without any dramas ... !?
I was thinking the same thing but with wedding planning for myself and trying to find a 10 foot plus board wouldn't have known if I could come up till the last minute To be honest highly unlikely that I could make it but still be great to have the chance ...
To me that would just limit numbers when I would have thought the club would be more about growth and very happy for everyone and anyone to turn up even if it was at 6;30 or 7 am on Sunday!!
I understand it is easier for running events if everyone signs up beforehand as its easier to draw up heats etc but to say no to last minute turn outs seems strange and limiting

Hey Guys, I know and understand where you are coming from. As the 10'+ division is an added 3 events to the existing 6 rounds, we wanted to limit the amount of man power required on the day as this was a concern in us even having the division go ahead. So to make the day easier to put together and run somewhat un-aided due to the non-progression format, it was valuable to have the pre-entries (as right now all the run sheets and score sheets are printed and ready to go). This is obviously not designed to detour anyone and we really want to have as many as possible come along. If you are already a SPSC member (as we all should be) then it is no extra cost to sign up for the 10'+ events, and if you can not make it, there would definitely be no bad blood, it would be accepted that you obviously really wanted to make it but work/etc didn't allow it on this occasion. In the future if the division takes off like I think/hope it will, maybe we will have a whole committee that attends to the 10'+ division exclusively, making no extra work for the existing volunteers on the committee and run it in a very similar way to the standard events held by SPSC. Being the first event, obviously we will learn a lot, and most importantly how well it would work to run this over the full year counter monthly with the other events which would be awesome, but something that no-one wanted to commit too at this point in time. I hope you all understand.

Well said JB and I did not want to bitch and moan ,But I was under the impression that the pre entries was for all SPSC events not just the 10foot plus one? Was this incorrect?
But I guess its just me venting as I am busy with life at the moment and missing all these comps!! Was just hoping I had the chance of a last minute rock up to an event in the hopefully near future!!

Thanks to all the crew for a fun day. Well done JB and the board on an inclusive shared effort bringing the stoke of fun back to Sup.
From legends to novices everybody got a few fun clean waves and did some judging. It was entertaining watching everybody adapting to the boards and conditions. Plenty of oooooo's and aaahhh's.
With many of us new to longboard style and longboard Sup we could not have asked for more perfect conditions.
Congrats to Mark Rennie on the style master award. Great gift from one of our kind and generous sponsors, a Naish paddle, you must be stoked.
The free surfs before, during and post comp pretty fun as well. Continued to be really good fun after everybody left with a little more tide pushing.

Jeremy's free surf nose ride on the Aldi inflatable was a stand out to me. I don't know who else saw it just north of the comp zone.
Sorry for gratuitous use of the word fun.
