Some shots of the big fellas on the Hull Paddlers these guys broke the scales at 150+kg but still managed to rip it up on the 10-2 & 10-6 boards.

The bald head guy is Junior the other is Ritch both work as Correction officers in the HI prison and do the security for the Hui contest. Absolutely the nicest guys you will ever meet. While I was photgraphing the guys a van pulled with prisoners to do clean up duty in the park their mate who was looking after the prisoners was even bigger closer to 400lbs these guys are gentle gaints and full of Aloha.

It's like what I said the hull paddlers surf beautifully as well as paddle. You do need a bit of size but then you can really crank em!! I can't even imagine how the Hull rippers are going to go

How come they keep pushing the Hull Paddlers as "entry level" boards...
and are YOU going to tell these guys?

Hmm?.....shoots, those guys are friends and I sure as hell aint gonna tell em!.....LOL......Nah J/K of course. As Rob said, Rich and Sam are two of nicest guys you will ever meet. They are full of aloha and stoke.

As for your first question, Blane did design these boards to be "entry level". The PSH Hull Paddlers are designed and constructed completely different from the wood veneer series. They are wider and thicker with a much different rocker than higher performance boards. However, they still surf very well and what I think is happening is this:

The Hull design is so ideal for stand up paddle boards that it dramatically improves performance even when applied to entry level type boards. The Hull design adds a whole dimension to what otherwise would be standard entry level shapes. So not only do these boards work great for those just getting started (and of course for bigger guys who can surf), but they offer better performance as newer paddlers start surfing waves.

Sage words and astute observations Bill. I keep saying I can't wait to try a Hull ripper. I reckon it could be as big as the Thruster fin setup was to surfboards. Big call- we'll see.

Thanks Leroy and I too cant wait for you guys to try the Hull Rippers. As we have said before, they are not for everyone. Guys who like more of LB/nose riding style of SUP may not like this design. The board is definitely made for surfing off the tail. However if you do surf off the tail and like doing more shortboard type progressive surfing, you may find the Hull Ripper to be the ideal board for you.

I am currently riding a 9'6 HR (pictured above) and flat out LOVE this board. I have honestly never surfed a stand up paddle board near as good as what this board does for me. And that includes all my previous PSH boards. I have been riding Blanes boards for 4 years (long before I worked for PSH) and while each new series has been a solid improvement over his previous models, none have been such a significant leap forward as I have experienced with the Hull Ripper design. From what I have seen and personally experienced, the Hull Ripper improves the performance of each surfer by a good 30% or more. I know I did not improve 30% in one session, especially at 53 yrs old...lol...so its all about the design itself working like no other stand paddle board.

Interesting point in comparing Hull design to the thruster, I have wondered the same thing. As you said, big call and only time will tell. My own opinion is that while time is needed to tell if the Hull will be AS significant as the thruster, I do believe, at the very least it, could be the most significant design breakthrough SINCE the thruster.

hi, i've got a question for you. i hadn't been sup surfing for 9 months. mainly surfed 12'6 dw boards and shorboards. just recently, i got a hold of a 8'9 ripper. my second one and yeah i like um- so fast and smooth.
anyway, i've laid the board up a few times-sort of shortboard smack the lip style, but have found sups generally just wont come off the top quick enough.a few of the ripper vids i've seen they do seem a faster board off the bottom and top.

what are your thoughts on this?

cheers
