What is the story with the over 45's.... 3/ 6 man heats only 2 go through to one 6 man semi and one 6 man Final

What a sh!t fight.....

Mens pro looks bloody tough , should be some spectacular Supping/Slashing/Bucket Chucking.

Cwoooooar, check out Heat 4 of the Open Pro:

Red NSW Noel Graham
White QLD Scott Penwarn
Yellow QLD Woogie Marsh
Blue QLD Paul Jacko

Lots of missing "big guns" this year:
- Keahi
- Billy
- The Hawaiians
- The South Africans
- Josh Constable
- Luke Egan

It looks like they are keeping the 50% progression rule - the top three from each heat progress. Get first place in your Round 1 heat and you go straight through to the final, come second or third and you have to surf it out in the semi final.

Did Scotty kill the organisers cat to deserve that heat?

I thought the same thing as Noel, the seeding looks like it's on crack. Effectively people that should be meeting in the finals will be knocked out very early by other potential finalists. Not that I know anything about contests though......

Yeah there were 60 guys in the open last year. 24 this year (+ 18 in the old fellas) wonder what's going on there?

I coud be WAY out but here's my rough predictions on the rest of the draw:

Round 2 Heat 1
Ben Apps
Noel Graham
Tatsumi Kawai
Paul Jacko

Round 2 Heat 2
Beau Nixon
Roger Saunders
Andy Davies
Tully St John

Round 2 Heat 3
Mathew Lumley
Jackson Close
Will Cousins
Greg Sunderland

Semi Final
Ben Apps
Beau Nixon
Mathew Lumley

Final
Noel Graham
Roger Saunders
Jackson Close
Mathew Lumley

I don't know about the placings in the final - depends on conditions on the day.

Yeah if it's fat and slow it will suit the big floaty boards, although Jackson could win on a dunny door. He will sit 20 meters further out and dominate the sets

Goatie:
Mate they had a waiting list of 5 extra over 45's but would'nt put on another heat , looks they have really limited the number this year.

Casso:
Thanks that's makes heaps more sense.

Probably too many longboarders complained that SUPs were taking over "their" event.

Its ok though because they will get their own back when a longboarder wins the sup event

Seeding is definitely way off

Keep an eye on Heat 2 and Heat 5, couple of dark horses in both that will be worth watching.

I don't understand how they figured out the seeding, but I definately feel sorry for some crew. Good luck to all the competitors!

Last year was an exception to the rule I think. A lot of the Over Seas Long Boarders pulled out about a month before last year due to a number of reasons and Phil had a line of SUP wanting to get in. $132 per SUP surfing makes up for last Long Boarders.

I would just be happy that he has split the divisions this year and that you were an early entrant.
