Hi All,
As an avid reader of posts and reviews have taken the plunge and put up my first Seabreeze post!
Been paddling about 4 years. I'm 56. 76kgs 5'10 and pretty fit. Ride a Jimmy Lewis 9'5 Striker and a 14x25 SIC I use on the river.
Last September I did a 5 day SUP/Surf course in Portugal and caught my first waves
! Managed to catch a couple down at Port beach also and am hooked.
I love my Striker but she's too big to take overseas. Need a sub 9' board and am keen to drop to around 120ltrs. I also have a Fanatic pro wave LTD 8'9 which a mate gave me. Obviously WAY too advanced for me. That said it's helped my balance heaps and I can pivot turn it.
I'm thinking of something like a Skate/Allwave/Pocket Rocket. (Used.)
Got good mates down Margs who will take me out to progress. (Away from the surfers.)
Would it be worth me persevering with the Pro Wave or forget it and go for something more suited to my ability.
I have a trip booked to Lombok (Ekas) and will be on the beach break and inside break if not too big.
On the off chance any WA readers who may wanna trade up, the Pro Wave LTD is a 2015 and in perfect condition.
That said, if you guys reckon I could progress on it without being detrimental to my progress I'd keep it.
Many thanks in advance.
The 8'9" Prowave should be a good step down into a surf shape. You will find that way too big eventually at your weight. When this happens, that's when i'd buy another board.
Try paddling it around flatwater practicing pivot turns etc until they feel easy.
I agree - have a paddle around on the Prowave and see how you go. At 76kg that board is probably a good size - in fact, you will go smaller if you stick with it. More time on the water will perfect your balance and leg strength. Even if you start in "flat" water but in windy conditions, you will perfect your balance.
If you can find a cheap used board, you could get something that is 10-15 liters above the Prowave and wider; 31-32" wide.
I would not trade the Prowave unless you plan on putting on weight.

I am your weight and love my 8 5 JL Striker
Cheers. Advice and opinions appreciated.
I know the 9'5 Striker is big, but I got it for mainly cruising around my local beach. (No waves.)
I do use the Pro Wave for paddling around and can pivot turn it comfortably in flat water. I was just a bit worried as I haven't tried it in waves yet, let alone catch one. Would it be ok in smaller stuff and beach breaks?
I am inclined to keep it.
The 8.9 Prowave is definitely worth keeping and doable at 76Kg however it's a true performance shape so you may be better with an "in between" board until you progress further.
My call would be a Sunova Flow or Steeze in 8.10. Either of those would give you stable progression to your Prowave.
Eventually they too will feel big to you but why make it difficult for yourself in the meantime.
I am around your weight to 80kgs.
Personally I wouldn't bother buying another board. The Prowave is perfect. Just keep using it. If you surf once to twice per week you will progress.
Took me 20 sessions to feel very comfortable on a 9ft 6 board. Then I dropped to an 8ft 3 110 litre board no problem.

Hey Freogeezer I got a 8'10" Sunova Flow if your interested !
Watch out down port beach,I noticed recently there was some small but nice waves there, but also heaps of people swimming or just hanging out int the water and in the carpark a no surfboard sign.

Cheers lukemin,
I would always stay way clear of any swimmers. Wasn't aware of the sign though. No harm in checking out your Flow. Is it possible to PM the details on this site?
