Cool footage! Why did you choose to foil it instead of sup surf it?

All I want to do these days is foil ??I haven't been on a surfsup for ages. Foiling is just so much fun. Not so much fun getting back to the beach though??

Well, I am just going to have to get back out and try it again - I have not been on the foil in 3+months. I can't imagine anything being as good as surfing...

Lol, horses for courses I guess, but I recon foiling is much better than surfing, the feeling is a rush that doesn't go away. I hooked onto a bigger set that day, and fairdinkum I was going so fast, if I had wings I would have taken off

Same, it seems so pedestrian after foiling. Kirra this morning would have been all-time for a sup foil.
I was watching yesterday and seeing these big lumpy ones feathering out side snapper and rolling all the way into Kirra, thinking that's do able on a foil for sure.

Since we are comparing surfing to foiling, were you a "down the line" surfer, or did you go for the biggest bottom and top turns? Don't you miss the turns?

(And how many times have you lost limbs due to foiling mishaps?)

Well I was a pretty **** surfer, I just like going fast. To get my rush I started taking my race sup out in bigger surf and just raced down the line, now I get a bigger rush with the foil. No limbs lost yet, a couple close calls. Seriously when you get the feel of what the foil will do, you start to auto adjust and avoid being hit buy it or falling on it.

Foiling provides you with exhilarating turns: high-G high-speed full on carves. It doesn't show as it has no visible wake, but the accelerations are there. The difference is that you must plan your turns, with surfing you just throw the board against the water surface, which will push back and help you in the turn. With foiling you are piloting a plane, so you must steer and control the foil through all phases of the turn. I guess it is what dolphins and birds experience when surfing just below or just above the water surface of a wave.

Foiling is just different from shortboarding. Just as longboarding, bodyboarding, bodysurfing, windsurfing, kiting, ... SUPing are differents ways to enjoy the different kind waves. Plain SUP Surfing is simpler than foiling, just like surfing is simpler than SUPing, and then bodyboarding, bodysurfing...

And I was never bruised when hitting the foil, which never happened in wipeouts, but rather going through breaking waves. Hitting my (sanded) regular fins hurts much more, and leave a dent in the wetsuit, unlike surfing foils.
