Hey all,
So,
The time has come to replace my GoPro Hero2
Why? well because really I'd like a remote to start stop when I'm on the board, that's the main thing, plus I guess the newer ones have Wi-Fi and other little niceties that may make my user experience better.
Question is, which one?
I've seen there's the new session and it looks great on paper, but have seen comparisons (youtube) and reviews that say its not as good quality (picture wise) as the larger Gopros..
I'm also on a budget of around 450 and would really like a remote in with that...
Any thoughts?
Thanks all.
Dave
I'm still using the GoPro Hero2 camera's.. The remote stop start will still work with them..
If I was upgrading I'd go for the new smaller GoPro Session.
With a budget of $450 and the desire for a remote it might be worth you looking at the Sony Action-Cam. I bought one a while back after losing two GoPro's to the dreaded red-flashing-light-of-death… I think it's adman good little piece of kit, plus it attaches to pretty much all of the GoPro accessories… Might be worth a look?
Thanks guys,
May explore the Virb...
DJ, don't I need another case/backpack/etc to run a remote on my 2?
I'm not unhappy with its performance..
Thx
You can use all gopro mounts etc with the Virb XE, handy.
No case required, better sound as a result & waterproof to 50 metres.
Pretty cool having read outs of data.
I like my GoPro Session. I wrote a bit about it here:
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/Review/GoPro-Session-and-GoPro-The-Strap-review
At the end of that thread you can see a Session look-a-like for a fraction of the price.
For what it is worth - and I would love to hear other people's experience - I stopped using the wifi connection because it was unreliable. Maybe my leggie is too long, but it seemed that if I fell off and climbed back on the SUP, there was no longer a connection between the hero and the wifi thing on my wrist. So if I have the GoPro mounted on the nose of the board I just turn it on and leave it recording.
Go pro 4 Silver $550 nothing else touches it , forget the remote. Just use the phone app.
The phone app on the water?
So, I took DJs advice and simply added the Wifi adaptor and remote to my Hero 2. Nothing wrong with the camera itself and has now freed up cash for my new QB paddle... Thanks for the feedback all..
get them for $89 without accessories, there are a heap of comparison videos on the net between this and the gopro sessions. If you shooting in well lit conditions like a sunny day, on the water or on the snow where light is reflected the results are very good. Actually has more features than the sessions, even has a built in LCD screen simular to the Sony Cube. Still needs the water proof case
Not as bad if you lose them, $89 rather than $450
